There is a clear distinction b/w right and wrong There is no such thing as I can do what I like. You cannot take poison and claim it is a God of Hinduism. For you poison can be God (based on your freewill, understanding of religion, etc) but it has nothing to do with Hindusim There is no such choice in reality at an advanced level as to achieve spiritual goals, you still have to do certain rituals including zazen The concern here is of the clueless masses turning a great religion like Hindusim into mockery based on their limited understanding and pursuit of convenience Who is mocking? Person of faith should respect his other dharmics, don’t join atheists and commies in the mockery

Gods have a lineage and history Religion is not a democratic, liberal, secular society ... You may have the choice to either do nor not do a karva chauth, but if you decide to do it, you have to follow the rules on how it is done Quote Btw....not just shell. Shell represents nature because I can't get the rivers, mountains ,sea ,trees into the temple. I like the idea of worshiping nature (as I am pro planet, anti pollution, etc.) but nature is not God though ... Much like you can worship/respect your parents, neighbor, the big banyan tree in the courtyard, a majestic mountain, but they are not God

You are the one trying to limit a great faith into a rule book of rituals and judgement. You are misrepresenting faith and trying to control it. You are even trying to control God by deciding where God can reside and where not . Just follow your way and try not to offend others by telling them their God or faith is wrong. Hinduism does not give you the power to judge other's faith. Don't confuse the religion of the brahmin and his need to control and stay relevant for his own benefit with faith. All religions have their domains. There is no I can do what I wish As I said before, you have the choice to do a karva chauth. If you do it, you have to follow the rules. There is no point in suggesting things such as who said karva chauth should be done in this way. I can do karva chauth in whatever way I please If you want to follow a religion, follow it properly by following its rules ... Or do not follow it
dial_100 Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 Freedom in hinduism is kept that way so that you are always open and not rigid in your ideas. Other religions dont provide that choice. That doesnt necessarily mean everything is right. In fact most are not right. I am not going to state who is right or wrong. One should be equipped to discern. The "ability to discern" is the real knowledge. the word "Dnya", "Dnyan" or "gyan". Hinduism is all about, first earn that discerning power, the Dnyan and then go on to the next journey. Until then who you pray, how you pray, what language, caste, rituals, place or temple you follow, it is all your choice. And I promise you this much, none of that comes from reading, listening, singing, or any other rituals. And hardly very few people can help you reach there. It is like there is a sweet in a small dish. Now there are books about how it tastes, how to earn it/grab it/win over/ that dish, how to prepare one, how to imagine having one, how it feels when you touch it, there are gazillion songs explaining what that sweet dish is. But none of these options really give you that. But once you really gain that little sweet dish, you know that this is so different from what all non-sense is being offered in the world. This little sweet dish is your "ability to discern", the "Dnya" or "gyan". That is the Real gyan. The word "knowledge" is merely learning from books or another mediums but this Dnyan is much beyond that. There are quite a few fancy words out there for this so called "Dnyan". In sanskrit also, this word is very complicated to understand. There are 1000s of experts explaining the meaning of it. They claim to have it, they claim to have adhikar, power to offer it well. beetle Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 Karwa chauth is a man made festival and people follow it different ways. Some people do not eat or drink. Some people drink water. Now even men keep karwa chauth . People keep karwa chauth even when they are far apart. People break fast by looking at picture of the moon if it is not visible. People change rules according to need ....because they are man made and are symbolic. Same for most other rituals. People follow religion the way the want and the way they can . Who are you to dictate how and to what extent they follow rules? Even the pujaris provode alternatives to the rules. Nobody cares about what you believe because they are your beliefs .....not everyones.

The diversity is usually found among those who follow the religion at a basic level. Many have turned Hinduism into a circus where even a virus can be worshipped in Hindu traditions The notion God is everywhere comes from the belief that God created everything. It does not mean looking at a criminal as a God. Nor does it mean picking up a branch to worship it when you would not do that to your bed. Therefore, there is no such thing as I can take anything I want (expanding it to do what I please to do) including a virus to turn it into a deity. If some people want to do that, it is ok but don't misuse Hinduism Edited June 13, 2021 by zen beetle 1
