Super Deluxe

Buddy, I watched the trailer ... What is so good about it to classify it as among the best trailers? ... What does it highlight for the film (No subtitles too on a dialog driven trailer. Do not understand the language)?

A trailer main job is to create excitement without giving too much away . Its a super intriguing trailer where they use same story and built it up completely flip in the end

Ok but it felt like a regular trailer. With cc turned on, it basically talks about ppl not caring at the point where they have no options left (tiger, cliff, snake, honeycomb, ...)  ... From wiki, it tells me that the film is an anthology of interwoven stories

u hvent seen the film ??? if not highly recommended....i call it India's pulp fiction

Its anything but like a regular trailer exactly like the film. Very few film trailer can manage the right proportion of making an intriguing trailer with setting right mood and not mislead the audience. The only trailer that does same was same director first film Aaranaya kandam , unfortunately not avl with subtitles online

I do not watch too many new Indian films now unless they are recommended. Many new Indian films in attempting to be cool/realistic rely on too much profanity, which is not to my taste ... Films with major stars or big budgets can be better in that respect as the films try to keep the profanity to minimum but would be heavy on masala elements ... Some are copies/versions of films already seen

If it is on Netflix, Prime, etc., I will give it a go

Its on netflix and it doesnt suffer from any issue that u have mentioned above. This is one of the best films to have come out in last so many yrs. Ill say it will have its own place in Indian cinema.

Definitely recommended. Don't want to hype it too much but it was good enough for me to keep me engaged and there was hardly any unnecessary profanity. It does cover many uncomfortable themes so you wouldn't want to watch it with your kids.

Based on @Ankit_sharma03 & @nikred's recommendation, I did a Tamil films double bill with Super Deluxe and Ratasan. Below is my short take on the two films:

  • Super Deluxe: Interesting concept of interwoven stories a la Crash, Traffic, etc. The film covers mature themes such as infidelity, working in porn films, and transwoman. I liked the stories and acting in general. At times, it felt that the filmmaker was constantly trying to surprise you so surprises eventually become less surprising. It throws in an alien into the mix as well, reminding you of the phrase "everything but the kitchen sink". There is a Mahesh Manjrekar in Wanted like cop as well. The film tried to cover mature themes with both humor and seriousness, which can make it appear less focused. At 3 hours, the film did feel long. Overall, it does manage to keep you interested.
  • Ratsasan (Demon): A serial killer drama. This one I found to be relatively more focused when it comes to presenting a cohesive theme. This film is also close to 3 hours long but broken down into segments that build the story. One of the characters that was to be put in danger was drawn out adequately to feel for it. As a positive, I do not recall any elaborate song and dance sequence in it (The filmmaker also resisted the urge to fit in an item number where the next clue is available at a club and you see someone singing something like  "Dulhe raja aye ghode pe per mein ... ". And where the chorus would go "Dulhe raja aye ghode pe per tu ...").  From an Indian film in this genre PoV, this one is a well structured film.

Overall, had a good time with these two films.
