Leg byes doesn't make sense

Byes - rewards batting team for poor keeping if keeper misses the ball, or if bowler sprays it too far for keeper. Sometimes luck if ball turns/moves a lot. But mostly it rewards batting team for mistake of opposition.

Same can be said about other rules of the cricket.

However leg byes - I don't get it. Why should batting team get runs, if they are not able to hit the ball and it is deflected off their pads?

Not just leg, head any body part of the body as long as it is not intentional. Basically until the ball is dead you can take runs.  IN order to remove leg byes you have to declare the ball dead as soon as it hits any part of the body.

When umpire gives LBW out but batsman is actually not out on review, the run taken by the batsman is not added. But if the umpire does not raise his finger on LBW appeal run is awarded to the batsman. This is another problem with leg bye rule

Yes because all rules were written before concept of reviews

Why batsmen are given out LBW?

Because he is stopping the ball from hitting stumps by his legs, when he should do that with bat.

He made the mistake and he is penalised for that.

What is mistake of fielding side when leg byes are given?

Because you can be caught off your gloves , the balancing for a batter is leg byes

Gloves is considered part of the bat as gloves cover handles. Balancing part is batsmen getting run off the gloves also. If gloves are off the handle and ball brushes it, then batsman is not out as per rules.

Leg byes isn't balancing part of that.

Yes, this is another part which doesn't make sense.

Basically all rules are part of the mistakes and skills of the players.

What's the skill and mistake invovled in leg bye and umpire giving it out or not out. Why should it affect the score?

Just illogical.

If leg byes are removed there will be lots of controversies. People will argue whether the ball hit the bat at every instance. Lot more headache for the umpires. Current rules are much easier to enforce.

Leg byes are given to compensate for  lbw rule.

How does it compensate LBW rule?

What's the cricketing skill involved in leg byes?

What's the mistake for which fielding team is penalised?
