Bumrah's bowling in this T20 world cup

More than the NZ game where we scored just a pathetic score (Some serious lack of intent inexplicably) ,150 was a top score to defend had we taken early wickets.It was garbage bowling ...150 was NOT a bad score TBH.

Bumrah was our best bowler barring Ashwin, who only played against minnows.

 

The combination of a lack of another strike bowler, and the low scores India posted against NZ and Pakistan meant that the batters had to take no risks, which makes it very difficult for a fast bowler to get them out.

 

The last player to worry about in this tourney was Bumrah.

 

The real question is why we didn't have other more in form bowlers in the squad, and why Ashwin was sitting until we played minnows.

Saw this MI match against CSK. Ruturaj literally swept him for six.  I don't think he is someone who opposition considers playing out. Nobody is scared of Bumrah anymore.  Probably a break is needed.

Clearly Bumrah, who bowled all of 1 over in the first 10 (and not even the opening overs, but the 3rd over) is responsible for not picking up early wickets that were necessary for India to win.

 

I mean, the logic is pretty damn simple. India absolutely needed early wickets to win. India's best bowler is Bumrah. But Bumrah bowled only 1 over in the first 10. And it's not like he bowled badly. He conceded 4 runs, had Babar hit one in the air that just fell short of the fielder, and had Rizwan barely keep a beautiful yorker out).

 

The obvious and logical thing to have done was to give him a lot more overs early. Yet the next over he bowled was the 11th.

 

So whose fault exactly was the poor bowling performance in that match? This is not a trick question. The answer is easy.

Has nver been a wicket taker in T20Is. He did what he has always done in T20Is.

 

In fact our bowling strategy in T20Is has always been defensive except for a 15-16 month period when KulCha weaved their magic.

 

having said that, he fid pick up a wicket inside PP in all 4 matches where he got to bowl 2 overs. Vs Pakistan his captain gave h 1 over in PP. Not as bad as OP has projected it to be.

 

He looked spent though. Gave it his all in the England tests. Rest him from the NZ series to keep him fresh for SA.Was shocking to see him play in a dead match today.

Bumrah will have a shorter career if his workload is not managed. His performance will drop in all the formats. Shami is aging too.

I am fully confident that playing our "safe" approach of playing cricket, we will never rest our bowlers and will bowl them to death in the quest for winning bilateral series.
