deepdynamo Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 The next T20 world cup is in less than year time. Time to gradually build up the Indian team series by series. Openers Rohit RahulMiddle Kohli Sky WK Pant All Rounders ? Spinners ?Pacers Bumrah ---------------- Only 6 players so far are sure shot in. There are many gaps to fiil in next 11 months along with giving game time to potential players.

Pant can only be displaced if Kishan opens ( his best position) and Rahul drops to middle order ( unlikely). For me, Pant is a sureshot and is evident by the new TM when they backed him for this series where Kishan is also available but not picked.

ShoonyaSifar Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 (edited) We will again get knocked out in the league phase if we persist with the class of 2015-16 - Kohli, Rohit, Jadeja, Ashwin, Bhuvi, Shami and Bumrah (add Axar as well) as our core players. Ideally from this group at most 3 should be in the next T20 WC squad. Rohit-Dravid will also the tough task of getting Saini and Kuldeep back on track, besides grooming V. Iyer, Ishan, Chahar/Bishnoi, Shaw, Rutu, Siraj, Umran and Prasidh and get Hooda/ Samad/ Shahrukh ready for international cricket. Too much to ask for but looks doable if they set a higher target of ICC Trophy wins and do not remain content with 'We have achieved we wanted to as a team' after winning meaningless bilaterals. deepdynamo Posted November 19, 2021 Author Posted November 19, 2021 Ashwin is qucikly sealing the first choice spinner spot in this T20 setup. Ahead of Yuzi, Axar and Jadeja at the moment. Varun C and Rahul Chahar are in oblivion now. Lost to system.
deepdynamo Posted November 19, 2021 Author Posted November 19, 2021 For all those putting fancy openers in T20 setup, remember it will be Rahul-Rohit all the way till the world cup. The best bet would be to settle on reserve opener. Ishan Kishan fit the bill.

The idiot management makes it impossible for new players to be tested even in bilateral tournaments where a win or loss is irrelevant. Yet fickle fans here act like Rohit is 2nd coming of bradman or sachin. The idiot never won a single worldcup semi or final. Never performed in critical matches. And ALWAYS gives his wicket in pressure situations like with Amir, Boult and Shaheen. Yet, BCCI conveniently puts a bilateral tourney in INDIA in batsman friendly conditions where the idiot Rohit scores like a beast to pad his averages only so fans forget what a loser he is in tournaments and knockouts that matter. Mark my words, we will never win WC's if team does not test new players in meaningless bilateral tournaments. Dhawan hogged the opening spot for years and yet they had to abruptly bring KL Rahul in opening spot when Ishan Kishan or someone else young could have been given a long rope to be prepared for important tournaments. This will be the same thing with Rohit and Kohli. They will play all bilaterals and fizzle in knockouts. Same with Ashwin, they were afraid to play him against Pak but now he gets a free flow in Indian conditions and all is forgotten. Axar Patel and Ashwin would have been taken to the cleaners if they played in WC against Pak and be dropped forever. Yet Varun C will be blamed. Ideal scenarios are not possible unless the revenue is affected, right now people will most stop watching if they don't see sarma on the big screen and they are all happy with him dominating bis. This is good for the game, cost is we probably won't win any titles in LOIs. Chakri and Pandya are the scapegoats as nobody cares about them.

He won the 2007 wt20 final though. Scored a clutch 30(15) and took us past 150 And if we agree that league matches against pak are crucial, he scored a century last time in 2019 cricketfan28 1

The new TM has stamped it already by going for them in first T20 useless series. No point doing Rhona Dhona. Role clarity and stability is crucial. We don't want Dhawan, Chahal, Deepak Chahar, Iyer etc. fiasco where they kept on playing all bilateral T20s and then dumped for WC. Ishan kishan would be ideal investment as an opener but even new TM is going for safety approach. We will never learn so atleast go for stability and role clarity and game time for chosen one rather than experimentation and then go back to same players without game time.
Vijy Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 (edited) For Oz conditions: (1) Shaw, (2) V. Iyer (?), (3) Kishan/Pant (wk), (4) Gill/KLR, (5) SKY, (6) Pandu (only if Pandu begins to bowl and rediscovers his batting)/Shankar (?), (7) Samad, (8) Thakur (only if fully fit), (9) Bishnoi/Ashwin/Axar/Sundar, (10) Bumrah, (11) Umran/Siraj/Prasidh Batting till 9 (except if Bishnoi plays) and 7 bowling options offering plenty of coverage. Gill/KLR will be the consolidator to play as insurance, while every one in top 8 can go hard from the beginning. Edited November 20, 2021 by Vijy
