Most of the top contributions came either on home tracks (which were flatter in the past) or against weaker oppositions. Of the players who scored 1000+ in a calendar year, one of the best for Indians was Amarnath in '83. Many overseas runs and in tough conditions (sometimes with very biased umpires).

Nonsense. Plenty of English fans were talking about this on twitter, hoping he would get there. In fact root himself talked about how ge got 9 50s in aus but never managed to convert one and he wishes to convert this time

 

Cricketers from all countries care about 100s and records, idk why icf likes to pretend otherwise. Have you seen how disappointed warner was when got out in 90s in first two tests?

Have you actually read what I wrote? Of course every player cares about basic milestones like a century or a fifer. But I'm talking about these random "records" with time constraints and other lame filters like "in a calendar year", " while chasing ", "in 4th innings", "against left arm spinners in the southern hemisphere while Saturn and Uranus are perfectly aligned with the sun" etc etc.. 

 

And I was talking specifically about the player. Not the fans on Twitter or experts.

Root definitely didn't serve it IMO, especially going past the king! His biggest runs have come on flat pitches & against the turning ball, especially in India he was *ing clueless

I think Root's runs were more deserved than some of the top people on the list (albeit not Richards). He scored his runs on reasonably bowling-friendly pitches and/or strong attacks. He wasn't bad in India either, especially in Chennai
