Majestic Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) Basically, the idea is that we will have 8 participants( including me) who will have 11 picks to make( maybe even one 12th man also) and the aim of the game is to pick the best possible team from the players available. It is a snake draft so the poster who will make his pick last in the first round gets to pick first in the second round and the same pattern follows for 11 rounds. The time limit for each pick is 8 hours. If you miss, you can come and make your pick anytime but by then you might miss on some players that would already be selected by the next posters. The winner will be concluded based on whichever team gets more votes. We will have a poll where other posters in this forum can pick the three best teams that they feel have been picked. The team picked first will get 3 points, followed by 2 points and then 1. Ultimately, the participant which will have highest point after a certain time will be the winner. All set and go then. The order of participants are :- 1. @Chakdephatte- Steve Smith, Brian Lara, Dale Steyn, Gordon Greenidge, Jason Gillispie, Michael Holding, Rishabh Pant, Chris Gayle, Graeme Swann, Yousuf Youhana, Hansie Cronje 2. @R!TTER- Imran Khan, Sir Richard Hadlee, Malcolm Marshall, Graeme Smith, Allan Border, Hashim Amla, Tony Greig, Ravindra Jadeja, Saeed Anwar, VVS Laxman, Matt Prior 3. @Adamant- Shane Warne, Curtly Ambrose, Shaun Pollock, Andy Flower, Barry Richards, Greg Chappell, Javed Miandad, Andy Roberts, Graham Gooch, Chris Cairns, David Boon 4. @Majestic- Glenn McGrath, Wasim Akram, Allan Donald, Ravi Ashwin, Steve Waugh, Virat Kohli, Alastair Cook, Martin Crowe, Quinton de kock, Mark Waugh, Justin Langer 5. @Rantzz- Sir Ian Botham, Viv Richards, Dennis Lillee, Kapil Dev, Joel Garner, Rahul Dravid, Kane Williamson, David Warner, Anil Kumble, Shiv Chanderpaul, Daniel Vettori 6. @QuarantineTormentino- Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Matthew Hayden, Courtney Walsh, Kagiso Rabada, Michael Clarke, Mahela Jayawardene, Benjamin Stokes, Mitchell Starc, Saqlain Mushtaq, Cheteshwar Pujara 7. @JaFanatic- Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Younis Khan, Waqar Younis, Joe Root, Mike Hussey, James Anderson, Shakib Al Hasan, Nathan Lyon, Vernon Philander 8. @zen- Adam Gilchrist, Muttiah Muralitharan, Sunil Gavaskar, Pat Cummins, Virender Sehwag, Shane Bond, Kevin Pietersen, Shoaib Akhtar, David Gower, Andrew Flintoff, Damien Martyn All the suggestions are welcomed. It will depend on participants as there can be some from different time zones but I think we can set a decent enough time limit for participants to make their pick.
Rantzz Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 I am in but we should do a cutoff from 1990 onwards or something like I bet very few here have watched Len Hutton or other oldies to judge
QuarantineTormentino Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 I’m in but I was born in the latter half of the 90’s so hardly know any cricketers from that era lol
JaFanatic Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Count me in. Would like to know how u conclude who the winners and losers are..

If I restrict it to 90s onward, we will have very limited options and end up with teams that are not as strong. But still if possible, we can restrict it to players who debuted from post 1970. That should do it.

Rantzz Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Yeah very difficult to rate anyone pre90’s so people will judge purely on stats. Maybe we compromise and do post 80’s to capture great WestIndiam teams Kapil Sunny etc
Majestic Posted December 13, 2021 Author Posted December 13, 2021 (edited) Okay good to stick with players from 1970 onwards. What it means exactly is that you can only select players that debuted in 1970 or afterwards. So, for example, a Sunil Gavaskar qualifies in the list because he debuted in 1971. But someone like Gary Sobers or Bishan Singh Bedi doesn't qualify because their debuts happened before 1970. A google search is enough for validation of any player's debut. Ultimately, the game will also help us crunching stats like averages and runs tally of some of the 70s and 80s players. The participants are :- 1. @Chakdephatte 2. @R!TTER 3. @Adamant 4. @Majestic 5. @Rantzz 6. @QuarantineTormentino 7. @JaFanatic This leaves us with one more pick before we can start. The only restriction is that you can only select a player who has played atleast one test and ofcourse, this is a test draft. Edited December 13, 2021 by Majestic Chakdephatte 1

We have got eight participants now but before starting, I would like to have suggestions from the posters regarding the time limit for any pick as obviously we can't keep waiting too long( more than 1 day or 2 day) if a participant does not make his pick. Should we have a certain time limit for any pick( say, 12 hours) post which the next participant will be allowed to make his pick? Edited December 13, 2021 by Majestic

If someone else misses his turn too, he would be placed below you, and so on ... On your excel or https://www.calculator.net/random-number-generator.html, do a random number generator to decide the initial order. Do that for every round so everyone has an opportunity to go first based on the random # generator. Edited December 13, 2021 by zen
zen Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 (edited) If it is 12 hours, then it would need roughly 12 hours * 12 players = 144 hours * 8 teams = 1152 hours = 48 days or so to finish the game Edited December 14, 2021 by zen

So, the one who will be last in first round will get to pick first in second round and so on. This is how it will follow for all 11 rounds. A random generator ultimately comes down to luck factor and obviously that will become a bit unfair to some. 6 hours limit is too low as people might have sleep too. I think 10 hours should be fine.
Majestic Posted December 13, 2021 Author Posted December 13, 2021 All the rules and restrictions are updated in the OP. I guess we are good to go then. 8 hours it is the time limit but if you are online, make your picks ASAP. @Chakdephatte will be the first one to go.

I thought there will be a limited number of players to chose from and we will have to usr some platform . Now I am doing a bit of research on players from 70s. Will the participants following me be unable to use those same players? Edited December 13, 2021 by Chakdephatte
