Actually England had Jack Russell at that time who was a pure keeper. So, they probably went with Stewart as pure batsman and opener for some years because of the potential he had with bat. But AS was a very good glovesman in his own right too.

Yes so the point is he wasn't an opener & WK at the same time, played less than 20 (30?) games as keeper+opener and did rather poorly at the time. He was just as good as pure WK as anyone else though.

Yes, I think when he was opener, he played as specialist batsman. Also, in Test cricket, keeper bats generally play at 6,7 or even 8.

Yeah I just checked out of curiosity, he only opened and kept 7 times, naturally given how hard that would be

 

Played as designated keeper 80 times tho

 

I can only think of Engineer as a keeper and opener batsman who did it often

budhi kunderan was damn good when he opened. should have been played as regular opener given our paucity of high quality openers before Gavaskar and after merchant. Both Mankad and Kunderan were unfortunately not played in their right positions - both had high avgs when opening.

Quite a few openers to pick from here. But I will go with the one who was part of the greatest opening pair of all-time.

 

It is Justin Langer who averages 48 as opener in Test cricket over a long sample. Surprisingly, his strike rate is 55 which shows that although he was technically quite solid on defense but on a given day, can be quite brutal too.

I think we can do a 4PM- 12 AM IST window or something like that everyday where everyone should be able to make a pick within a time limit of max 2 hours.

 

Those who miss out can come and pick anytime (even outside the window) but maximum time limit should be strictly 2 hours.

 

The 4PM-12 AM slot I think should work with most of us and is also favourable for people living in other countries like UK, Australia, USA, Canada etc.

Sure , sounds good, we can also have inter-player exchanges as well, but a limited number, maybe upto a max of 2 per participant, what do you think of that?
