His pace is also declining and claiming it back will be hard. I don't think Shami ( who is really around 36 ) will get his pace back. But getting the ball to zip through, using wrists and a good seam position, is possible. 40 year old Anderson has actually increased the zip he gets off the deck in the last 15 months or so. And I think Shami can get back a bit of his old bounce too. ( something he had a lot of till 2020 ) Edited January 11, 2022 by express bowling Vijy, BacktoCricaddict, Majestic and 1 other 4

( something he had a lot of till 2020 ) yeah, I don't see it happening either. however, if he can get some bounce and zip, then it will be fine even if he operates at 133-135 kph range. however, he should not allow his avg pace to go below 130-132 IMO

Just plain disgraceful. Shami is a phenomenon top level bowler. But he is old now. Probably 36. So he should play every alternate game imo. Like 3 out of 5 or 2 out of 4. Not open the bowling often. Maybe go one down. Bowl like a faster Wagner. 130-135 with good bounce and movement. Edited January 12, 2022 by Jay Vijy 1
vvvslaxman Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 India needs larger pool given that some of our bowlers are getting older. Deepak Chahar probably would have been an option in Tests in SA. Nobody is going to go after his bowling anyway in Tests. But when he clicks he can pick two or three wickets. Given that Bhuvi tasted some success here in SA and Deepak Chahar is the closest to his style we could have tried him. Who knows. We might have gotten lucky.

He can bat. But he ain't no prime bhuvi. Prime bhuvi was a legit talent. He averaged 25 26 until he got injured and quit.

Nobody absolutely rated Thakur even as a T20 bowler. He was always considered a CSK quota like Gony, Mohit sharma. Here we are. He has already won matches with bowling and batting. So it is not such a terrible idea trying Chahar.

Average is a bit deceiving because it's in India. He averaged 27-28. He could always bat. Guy goes for runs but he can grab a lot of wickets. He was no scrub. BacktoCricaddict 1
