Tracking India's middle order performance in LOIs

Reasons  1) Opposition is 10th ranked team which lost to Associate (Ireland) last month.  2)  It's a home series as well. Familiar conditions. 3) In the 2nd odi, we scored 237 which was below par even on that ground. The bowlers saved us from embarrassment in that game. Yes, MO did a decent job, but bowlers had to bowl exceptionally well to win it.  Prasidh was MOTM.

Consider an important point here - Windies batsman are ****, their bowlers are okayish.

And the conditions were assisting bowlers in all games.

Taking tha into consideration, SKY has shown that he belongs and has arguably solved India's no 5 and 6 woes. Shreyas has also shown that in Indian conditions, he is excellent, gritty and resilient. Will most likely be the best man to bat at 4 in Indian conditions in a world cup knockout especially when the top 3 succumb under pressure.

Pant is inconsistent but he never fails to amaze with his range of shots and the ability to go out and score at 100+ strike rate when the team is 40/3 down.

The top 3 has never been able to do it, not even at peak, coming at 40/3 and scoring at 100+ strike rate is not something they have done.

All in all, this has been an excellent series for middle order in testing situations with the top order completely failing. You could argue that it was home conditions but it was still testing.

Pitches were not dead . In one match it was spinning and in other 2 (which i feel - very good for sporting cricket - Bounce , movement and slight spin too )  without much dew.  Also bowling was decent  of Alzarri (many are not rating him much strangely) ,Roach , Hossien ,Holder due to some help for pacers.

In such scenario, middle order has done decently as compared to top 3. This series also showed this MO still has not come to grips of playing as per match situations. No one batted long enough after getting 50 to finish the innings. But a good beginning for them to build on this positive start.

I am happy that   at least candidates for  MO are identified in KL, Pant, SKY,Iyer. Just give them chances now among these .

At the same time a top opposition batting side would have perhaps won last 2 matches as scores were chase able. We need to question top 3 more than MO in this series.

Yeah, I said the same. The conditions were assisting the bowlers.

No he hasn't, first of all we need an allrounder at 6 not a batsman and Kl Rahul is already at 5, Sky is a reserve bat and even he hasn't shown much in this series.

Even Windies bowlers arent great, they were inconsistent with their lines.

Shreyas has shown nothing, he has been truly mediocre. Can't play anything above hip.

80(111), if someone from top 3 played a similar innings people would be hurling abuses at them.

Can't blame him here because India failed to bat full 50 overs. So, him wasting a few deliveries extra don't count considering others didn't even batted full 50 overs.

Ultimately SKY or Shreyas only is a solution unless you are getting Pandya. That is your top 6. These all rounders like Venky or Hooda are just thrown in for instant requirements in bilaterals.

Pandu if fit is the best option. otherwise, I'd rather have sundar. he is also one player who can rescue team from inevitable 40/3 in KOs.

Everyone here is busy bashing Bhuvi and Chahal.  I understand their disappointment. But they are conviniently ignoring the fact that Bhuvi performed in the 1st game vs Pak.  He cant perform in every match.  What about our Middle order batsman who is currently ranked 2nd and FAILS every single time he comes out to the crease against top teams in imp games.  (Bowlers can't win matches on flat pitches as long as we hv an unreliable MO).    SKY's scores against Pak in his t20 career so far 11, 18, 13.    All these failed knocks hv come at a stage when he had plenty of time to build his inning on flat UAE pitches.   It's not as if he was asked to bat at no. 6 or something.  Hardly anyone in ICF is questioning this overrated TTF.
