Let's wait for Kohli to retire. He will say a lot of things about Kohli too. He did let the game drift away in Capetown Test.

 

Anyways, not a comparison between the two as test captain. Kohli was much better, just that he gets way too much hype as captain than he deserves. He was excellent in patches but pretty average in others too like WTC Final for instance.

Every great captain has bad matches. Kohli was very good  captain in all formats and to me best Indian overall captain in all formats .

 

Dhoni was excellent captain only when he could control things with his spinners.There was no captain better than Dhoni in any format on spinning tracks.

 

He had no clue in any format if spinners could not give him control. India was no way winning CT 2013 if Ashwin and Jadeja had no impact. He got tailor made pitch for CT finals.England test series in 2012 is prime example where Dhoni looked clueless even in India.He could not think beyond Ashwin and ohja.

I know we won that match but two things happened, he bowled Bhuvi to death and Ishant got injured.Both of them proved fatal as India got whopped rest of the series.He simply had no clue as a captain how to get 20 wickets using fast bowlers.
