The recent Nupur Sharma incident shows that each religion needs to protect themselves. For those that do not think this is a big deal... I think it has more to do with having platforms to express your triggered-ness. Back in the day, you'd rant to your close friends and relatives and let it go. On a related note, there's nothing wrong with being triggered - everyone reacts differently. But that should not mean the person triggering you with their words or creations must face legal action just because you are triggered - going there would be asking for a theocracy. It's not their talks or tweets, but their inability to answer straight questions in interviews. The non-left should ask such questions the Muslims, LW leaders and their supporters.
