sage Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that he is strictly against the idea of Indian cricketers getting rested for series, especially seniors. https://www.hindustantimes.com/cricket/you-don-t-take-rest-during-ipl-then-why-ask-for-it-when-playing-for-india-gavaskar-slams-seniors-for-wanting-breaks-101657544768114-amp.html
sage Posted July 12, 2022 Author Posted July 12, 2022 "I honestly feel that the BCCI needs to look into this concept of rest. All the Grade A cricketers have received very good contracts. They receive payment for every match. Tell me if there is any company whose CEO, or MDs get so much time off? I feel that if Indian cricket is to become more professional, a line needs to be drawn. If you want to be rested, you need to reduce your guarantees. Then you take rest, because you don't want to play. But how can anyone say that I don't want to play for the Indian team. Which is why I do not agree to the concept," Gavaskar added.
nevada Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 Let them take rest and also forego a ratio of their annual contract amount. If the BCCI tells them to do this, they will automatically stop asking for breaks.
Chakdephatte Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 Seniors resting means some newer faces getting tested. So good for India, no one should complain. raki05 1

If the BCCI tells them to do this, they will automatically stop asking for breaks. Players get match fees for every game they play, and they don't get them for games that they are rested. Gavaskar is just being reactionary and folks are rising to the bait. Of course the IPL is the time for players to maximize their earnings. And player workload has to be managed at some point. Something has to give somewhere - international player participation in domestic games has already suffered, and now bilaterals will suffer too. A team like India can actually manage that given its depth, and its a positive in terms of allowing newer players to emerge. You don't want players to "not ask for breaks" btw - overuse injuries can build over time and you don't want a key player out for a WC just because he 'didn't ask for a break" 6 months ago against Ireland or Zimbabwe. tweaker Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 When seniors take rest most probably players are chosen so that seniors can just walk back in team Axar Jadeja Shreyas. Virat Shardul. Bumrah, Harshal Shami The young players choosed should be such that they can have completion for that spot. They cant be discarded when the seniors comes back,ie Jadeja easily replaced Axar raki05 and express bowling 2
