vvvslaxman Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 (edited) Try to ensure all 11 batsmen can strike the ball well If you target that you will atleast end up with 8 or 9 good strikers. There is absolutely no excuse for not having batting ability unless you are an extraordinary bowler with good fielding skills. There should be only one consolidator. That's it. No more. Everyone else has to keep going after the bowling.. We might lose some this way. Be prepared. Even consolidator needs to have top gear. This way you don't have to worry about specialist finishers as everyone can play that finisher role. Atleast two specialist batsmen should be bale roll his arm over when it is required. Spin is fine. There must be atleast 2 genuinely fast bowlers in the side There must be atleast one wrist spinner in the playing XI all the time No room for finger spinners unless he is a mystery spinner like Theekshana Batting order should be very flexible. Have a standard batting order. But be prepared for playing them out of their position. There should be zero bad fielders. If you can't field it doesn't matter what you do with bat or ball. You are out. There should be no leniency here Need to have a mix of left/right. Cannot all be right. This might look idealistic and impractical. But without set of guidelines if you pick squad you end up with subpar squad like we sent to this world t20. If you set very high standards of expectation , you can end up with a half decent squad even if it doesn't meet 100%. But if you don't set any expectation this is what happens. A garbage squad with too many unusable players. Absolutely no vision. This cheatn sharma gang should have been fired already for giving us this inept squad. vvvslaxman Posted November 11, 2022 Author Posted November 11, 2022 They could very well take the template from CSK 2021, old KKR teams.
vvvslaxman Posted November 11, 2022 Author Posted November 11, 2022 1) Gaikwad (consolidator+aggressor) 2) Faf 3) Robint uthappa 4) Moeen Ali 5) Ambati Rayudu 6) Dhoni 7) Jadeja 8) Bravo 9) Thakur 10) Chahar 11 Hazlewood Team that won the IPL. granted Dhoni/jadeja are not exactly T20 ball strikers. Look at the depth. Chahar is coming in at 10. Heck even Hazlewood can bat. They have 2 spinners 4 seamers. Bravo/Hazlewood can bowl in death Only miss is leg spinner
vvvslaxman Posted November 11, 2022 Author Posted November 11, 2022 KKR 2014 Uthappa Gambhir Pandey Yusuf Shakib Ten doeschate SKY Piyush Sunil Narine Morkel Umesh Look at the depth. Narine coming in at 9 4 spinners, 3 seamers including Tendo

We simply don't have the bowlers who can provide that depth. Those who can bat are mostly trundlers like Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Harshal Patel. All the top names we have in bowling are Shami level hitters or below.

At the risk of losing some edge in bowling India should back Chahar/Thakur over these clowns. One of the reason teams like England can keep going hard is they have incredible batting depth.
vvvslaxman Posted November 11, 2022 Author Posted November 11, 2022 I was mocking Tewatia. Heck he wouldn't have done worse than Axar.

If we go by four pacers, it is possible. But we have this old school mindset of 3 pacers + 2 spinners also.

You try to get as close as possible as against what we have now.

Vickydev Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 The balance is key, a lack of batting depth is killing this team. Currently the biggest personnel issue IMO. A lot of others things can be taken care of by changes in attitude, approach or selections. Just don't see a ready solution for this though. Don't see any front line bowler who can contribute with the bat like even to the level of Boult/Southee/Rabada, forget Cummins and Rashid Khan. It'll allow us to avoid picking the likes of Harshal/Bhubi/Ashwin type: non threatening bowlers needed just for their batting. Mohsin could be one but he isn't to be seen since IPL Even a lead spinner capable of batting in top 6 is welcome where we can possibly go with 6-7 bowling options and pick ARs till 8. The ARs can do the containing job while the 3 remaining are out and out attacking options. Right now we are caught in the middle. Raj Bawa and Hangargekar could be options but will have to see how they develop We need proper depth in this line up, Top order players can't bat freely believing they are the best to negotiate the end overs when wickets can tumble. And we then lack wicket takers because we have safety first options occupying the bowlers slots

Majestic Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Which all pacers should we back in T20s? Let's start from here and have the right combinations too:- Bumrah Siraj Arshdeep D Chahar ( in place of Jadeja or else no) Pandya That's 3 main bowlers and 2 A/R. If Arshdeep gets injured, we should go to Mohsin. If D Chahar who anyways remain injured, then we have Shardul. Who else? Umran Malik(close to 150) and Karthik Tyagi(140-145) are genuine pace. Avesh can clock 140+ too but he doesn't really have a proper international level fast bowler attitude. Kuldeep Sen, I have seen only a bit of him. And then we have trundlers who are backed by Indian team like Bhuvi, Harshal Patel and now they have picked Yash Dayal also. If all this isn't enough then they go back to test match bowlers like Umesh Yadav or Prasidh Krishna.

Groom and fast track guys like bawa and Abhishek Sharma both are left handers and powerful strikers plus good fielders and both can be groomed for batting allrounder role then u have pandya and sundar Groom umran Malik Tyagi and hangergekar all 3 are quick plus hangergekar can tonk big work on batting of Tyagi as well, all 3 should be given role to bowl flat out fast track all 3 groom them let them play foreign leagues and counties Bishnoi and kuldeep should be part of indian set up let them play foreign leagues and counties to develop their skills, gill shaw, Jaiswal ,sky ,pant should be given clear role let shaw and pant open and tell them to go flat out, gill the accumulator with strike rate in mid to late 130's Patidar, jeetesh verma, Tilak verma, kishan, hooda should be in scheme of things so should be arshdeep and otswal vvvslaxman 1

But we should never lose sight of the fact that batting depth has cascading effect. in the approach. You can establish an aggressive brand of cricket with confidence when you have depth. But if your batting stops at 4 or 5. We can implode to 150 all out from 130/5 in 15 overs.

T20 requires the right combination. Not necessarily perfect players. On an average even top batsman faces only like 20 to 25 balls. You just need to be good enough for 15 to 20 balls. You don't need to build an innings for 30 overs here.
