deepdynamo Posted December 4, 2025 Author Posted December 4, 2025 This thread is three years old but the test batting standards have declined further. Rohit, Kohli, Pujara, Rahane are all gone. KL is still mid average. Pant is still our best MO batsman ( but declining) Iyer is no longer in contention in red ball. Shaw is vanished. Only Gill has flourished slightly, Jaiswal has come in the picture and Washington has imporved as a test batter as well. The new batters have been a major dissapointment so far. None of them have cemented their place as yet. Sai, Paddikal, Sarfaraz, Patidar, Jurel (as batsman), NKR ( as batting AR)

Right now that step is a no starter with Gambhir in charge. You back the wrong horse and by the time you realize it is a wrong horse he decides to back another wrong horse. If India gets the first part correct we will be in much better shape. Backing has to be based numbers and eye testing. If needed invite all of them for trial and let them face different of type of deliveries on different surfaces. Filter out. BCCI has enough money to conduct a trial. deepdynamo 1

Stan AF Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 There's no next top order and middle order guy who can score 20-25 test 100s minimum for India now. putrevus and deepdynamo 2

deepdynamo Posted December 5, 2025 Author Posted December 5, 2025 After witnessing the twin home debacle ( 0-3 vs NZ, 0-2 vs SA), its actually time to look for specialist red ball batsman in Ranji. Apart from Gill, Jaiswal, KL (for now) & Pant, places are up for grab. No more pseudo allrounders, no more IPL hyped players, no more WK turned batsman. Just proper batsman who are tuned to bat long. Batsman who can dominate spinners. We need to fix our home record now and the next series is BGT (2027). Lyon, Kuheman and Murphy- we know their spinners, we need to find batsman who can tackle them.
