Non performing captains

What is with the Indian team ? Everyone who becomes captain seem to no longer perform. Only Kohli thought was good except for the last 2 years of poor form. Rohit sharma, KL Rahul and Hardik pandya all have not performed. Do they feel they no longer can be dropped?

That is not necessarily true for Sir Don, who has won India games with the bat or ball as a captain in each of the series versus Ire, WI, NZ, & SL.

In 8 games that he has captained in (1 game got washed out) that too with many new players, he has played good knocks in each of the series. Against SL, he opened the bowling too.

A few example:

A 24 off 12 balls v Ire

A 28 off 16 v WI

A 30* to help India tie a shortened game versus NZ and win the series … Ind was 21/3

A 29 against SL to help steer the ship when Ind was 46/3

Plus some good bowling spells.

Ind lost just 1 game so far while playing with relatively new players so can’t ask for more!

Also..his batting may hv not done much but he is contributing to bowling..esp bowling opening spell..and best of all..if he keep bowling well..Bhuvi will be kept out..

Yeah, Cricket fans know this. And they have patience as well.

No one in his right frame of mind would try to judge a player who has not even captained in 15-20 LOI games yet (in a IPL season, a team played 14-17 games till recently. Can’t recall how many games a team plays in 2023 - it could be the same number)! … And when the player has quite a few good performances.

He never played a long innings which used to be the case if he came down the order . But he is playing up the order but no longer can bat long. His average is 25 with bat seems to be his ceiling. That average seems very low for captain.

Contributing in bowling he didn’t want to bowl last over against lanka in first match. He made a spinner bowl last over which is a big no no in t20s

Your concepts are all over the place.

Also there is nothing like an ideal average for a captain. Shanaka for e.g. averages 21-22. KW, who bats in the top order has an avg of 33, Sakib’s average is 23, and so on. Bauvma’ avg is 23. Mooen Ali, who captains Eng from time to time averages 23 too!

Sir Don is averaging 31 in T20s since his return to international cricket in June 2022. And he brings 4 dimensions to cricket - batting, bowling, fielding, & captaincy! … In the same period, Rohit averages 26, KL 29, Kishan 24, Pant 19, S Iyer 20, Karthik 21, & Axar 23!!

That is captain’s call per the situation in a match (not some formulas) … There is no right or wrong, and the result worked in Ind’s favor, so it is a non issue ... Tendulkar and Sehwag have bowled successful last overs too.

Those are tactics per the situation in a particular game.  From a big picture PoV, he is bringing about a change where players have shown a positive mindset.

Kohli after becoming captain excelled as batsman in all formats until 2020.

His captaincy became stale and new direction was needed but to give captaincy to frauds like this guy Pandya and Rahul is ridiculous.

This series his opening spells have been brilliant. Someone rightly wrote we haven't missed bhuvi best opening spells thanks to Hardik. I am happy with hardik the captain, i am with him when he says I need to put team in difficult situations. Look at SL 18 months back they looked a team with potential but weren't winning. Today they are slowly transforming to a good team.

Lol so comparing pandya to shakhib , KW and lankan captain. So he is on par to minnow team captains lol. KW is never a t20 player.

Sir Don, along with SKY, is Ind’s MVP, who can get into any top T20 11 as an AR (You appear to have no idea about how T20s are played or how ARs’ function). Most of Indian players cannot.

Don’t know what you are going on and on about.

Chapri is just flavour of the season more he plays more his captaincy would be scrutinized , as of yet he has captained mostly against minnows. He hasn't bring anything new as far as his own performance is concerned it's been 7 years and him and most of his bhakt are still figuring out he is a batting alrounder or bowling as there are hardly any series where he performed as true alrounder in T20. The only iconic T20 game he played so far is Asia Cup game against pak in his 7 years career. He great free pass as he is able to fool TM that he is rare commodity in Indian cricket but this rare commodity rarely play that too in one format and have rare performance. Let's see how he goes in another 1 years as both captain and alrounder.

He seemed to have cramps or some minor niggle..though he hid it by saying he wanted to put team in tough situations lol..

I will also add that as far as his batting is concerned..I dont want him to become a consolidator..I wud like to see him batting with agression..as he wont hv the class of Sharma or Kohli to consolidate..better be the best version of urself..and remain an agressive hitter..

Pandya will captain in T20s. Where he definitely deserves a place.

Don't expect consistency from a no. 5-6 batsman in T20s. The no. of impact knocks he has played are going to be counted.

In last 3-4 months he has played enough such knocks

1. Asia cup first Pakistan match where he finished the match by thrashing Haris Rauf for 14 runs in penultimate over.

2. WC Pakistan match

3. WC SF

4. Aus T20 series at home where he score 71(30) in first match

5. finished the tight series decider against Aus

As for his captaincy, will judge him after sometime. So far it is mixed.

People are now scrambling to find few good performances from this guy Pandya in his career of 7 years.Rohit Sharma has 4 t20s 100s and 35 ball t20 100 which is fastest by any Indian.

Rohit has been a below par t20  player just like this fraud for most of his t20 career.

People were clamoring for Rohit's captaincy after 2021 t20 only to be exposed in one year. International T20 captaincy is not IPL captaincy where team can fill roles by buying good players.Rohit's captaincy in all formats has proved it.

There is nothing in Pandya's game which says he can bat agressively from ball one. Question is can he bowl 4 overs every match for next 2 years till  next t20 world cup.As we have seen in series answer looks no.He choose to finish his quota when he had least pressure.

Next t20 world cup is in two years and in WI where spinners might play more important role than trundlers like Pandya.

Question to any who defends of this fraud, What is Pandya's identity as a player after 7 years of international cricket and how is this guy an upgrade as a captain over Sharma.

captaincy involves a lot of pressure. to do well in terms of maintaining one's own records, you must be one of two things: (a) mentally very strong (e.g., waugh) or (b) very selfish (e.g., baibar, jayawardene)
