Yes with Gill I might have to swap him with someone else. Maybe even mayank. Or anyone else. Patidar or Shaw.

Makes sense can't go with Bharath for sure for the finals.  They had to try out Kishan otherwise they had to play him straightaway in the finals...  Bharath is not cut for Int'l cricket..  His Technique is worse than Ishan...  Who can at least bat left handed.

Difficult to judge both batsmen (failures can be due to the pitch) and spinners (success due to the pitch) in such extreme spin friendly conditions. 
 

Potential 11, assuming a turning track:

 

Rohit

Gill (expected to get a run) 

Count Pujara (tends to shine in the 2nd innings off late)

Kohli (will get a benefit of doubt due to the pitches) 

S Iyer (will get a benefit of doubt too despite expected to do well here as playing spin is considered his strength) 

Kishan or Bharat (again tough to judge a newcomer on such pitches) 

Jadeja

Ashwin

Axar (or Kuldeep could be brought in)

2 pacers from Umesh, Siraj, and Shami 

 

PS youngsters should ideally be given a run on relatively sporting pitches.

Replacing Kohli with a broken chair is an improvement.

At least the chair wont use up DRS and drop catches.

We need Kishan Kuldeep and SKY in this team.

Remember we must at the very least draw this match.

5 bowlers and batting to 11, even Umesh can score  a few runs in a few balls.

 

Surely just one player from that lineup can score a solid 75+ and the team can build around that innings.

 

I get the feeling that the Kohli mental health issues will be used to protect his brand and drop him, rather than drop him on form.

This fellow Ishan Kishan - I suppose he can keep well to the spinners in 2 full test innings? A couple of wk missed chances and ...... remember Parthiv Patel in Australia? He could not keep to Kumble at all.

 

Keeping in tests is totally different from keeping in ODIs never mind T20s. Its hard. That is why the likes of Sangakarra stopped keeping in tests vs LOIs.

no. 5 also needs to play spin. gill is better at 3 - this way, he can face more of pace, but at least the swing (another weakness of his) will get a bit blunted

I know ashwin has some good knocks, and also that chepu and brat should have been kicked out a long time ago. however, it is one thing to make counterattacking 50s down at no. 8 or so, and scoring 30s in the top order. I would pick chepu over ashwin; not sure about kohli though

kohli will play though. this is a better lineup given that kohli will play:

 

pujara --> he is better vs pace than spin nowadays

gill --> better vs pace

kishan --> better vs pace on indian pitches

fartman --> best batter at no. 4 (e.g., akin to positions played by root, smith, SRT)

axar --> second best batter

jaddu --> third best batter (although not this series)

SKY/iyer --> both are hacks, who can slog to an extent

bharath (wk) --> playing kishan as keeper and having dropped chances can cost us dearly. need a specialist keeper on these type of pitches

kuldeep --> proper wicket taking option

umesh/shami

kohli --> specialist no. 11 chosen for PR

that's like saying oz bowled in just one innings because we got rolled over for 109. since oz was chasing 80 or so, there was enough time to make a dent in the number of wickets picked. ashwin bowled a fair number of overs in the match - around 30 - whereas lyon bowled around 35.

lyon outbowled ashwin in the 3rd match. I'd say he outbowled ashwin in 2nd test too.

Ishan will drop for sure but has higher ceiling for batting.
