Punjab not playing Gurnoor Brar was a major letdown, when their bowling lineup was getting under pressure in most of the games

Yes, they kept on playing trundler Rishi Dhawan(33 years) rather than investing on young talent like Gurnoor. At worst, it would have been an investment for future seasons.

Delhi Capital Bowling Review IPL 2023

A campaign in disarray. The fact that DC used 23/25 players in IPL 2023 emphasizes the fact that everything went down south for DC.
The pace bowling was a musical chair as DC didn't finalize on one set bowling unit. Also, third grade Indian talent in fast bowling like Khaleel, Mukesh and Sakraiya hampered DC in their progress.

Khaleel Ahmad had a failed IPL yet again. A mental midget with no motivation to improve, he was destroyed more often than not. This was his 5th IPL season and he is yet to show improvement.
9 Matches, 9 Wkts, 9.12 Eco

Mukesh Kumar is the new Trundler Kumar. He played 10 games and the numbers are downright shocking.
10 Matches, 7 Wkts, 10.51 Eco

A Nortje was expected to lead the attack. He was decent in few games but overall disappointing.
10 Matches, 10 Wickets, 9.10 Eco

M Marsh was surprisingly good despite bowling as his secondary skill.
9 Matches, 12 Wickets, 8.42 Eco

Ishant Sharma, with no pressure of expectations, exceled in later part of tournament.
8 Matches, 10 Wickets, 8.24 Eco

Sakariya & Mustafizur played couple of games and their economies were 11+.

DC Spinners, India internationals,  were expected to lead the attack in middle order. Instead, they were mostly non threatening.
Axar Patel ( Defensive & Economical)- 14 matches, 11 wickets
Kuldeep Yadav ( Economical only ) - 14 matches, 10 wickets

KKR Bowling Review IPL 2023

A middling season for KKR with more failure than success. A formulistic approach based on spin heavy attack made KKR one dimensional. There was no standout pace bowler who won them matches. It was always about the spin trio and no one else.

Umesh Yadav A failure of gigantic proportion. He was slow, wayward and probably carrying an injury. An over the hill bowler on downward spiral.
8 Matches, 1 Wkts, 9.94 Eco

Shardul Thakur A lot better was expected from an Indian international but he didn't rise to the occasion and was mostly mediocre.
11 Matches, 7 Wkts, 10.47 Eco

Andre Russell A major disappointment for KKR with both ball & bat. KKR was heavily dependent on Russel (and Narine) but both faltered. Maybe a sign that KKR should move on from them.
14 Matches, 7 Wickets, 11.34 Eco

Harshit Rana was a lone bright spot for KKR. A high pace bowler for the future and maybe an Indian prospect as well.
6 Matches, 5 Wickets, 8.64 Eco

Vaibhav Arora Another good rookie. Maybe not as bright as Harshit but improved gradually with every game.
5 Matches, 5 Wickets, 9.12 Eco

Ferguson and Southee Both were not given enough chances ( just couple of games) because two overseas spots were reserved for Russell and Narine. Ferguson, in particular, should have led the KKR attack .

Spin was the main mode of attack for KKR and Varun C led the attack appreciably.
Varun Chakravarty (Lead spinner, took wickets and most consistent with economy )- 14 matches, 20 wickets
Sunil Narine ( An average campaign and he looked out of gas. Should retire. ) - 14 matches, 11 wickets
Suyansh ( A rookie with no domestic experience. A solid first season and good investment by KKR ) 11 matches, 10 wickets

Anukul Roy ( KKR tried another rookie for few games and got decent economical results) 4 matches, 3 wickets

Umran  0/41 (3)

Tyagi  0/41 (2.5)

These guys can bowl fast but if they are returning unflattering figures game after game, they will lose fans very quickly.

In the same game, Bhuvi 1/26 in 4 overs. No wonder Bhuvi will again be entrusted to lead SRH bowling in IPL 2024 as well while Umran or Tyagi may be released.

TBH, I would we happy if SRH release both Umran and Tyagi.

Let them poach Sandeep Sharma and Sid Kaul from RR and RCB. Let these 3 knuckle bowlers keep doing this for SRH.

This has been a low IPL for Umran while Tyagi just stayed on bench(ie 90-95% of time)

Umran was terrific last year

Tyagi too did well till 2 IPLs before

They need to play as much as possible, and lastly pitches have been super pathetic for fast bowling

Sandeep Sharma IPL 2023

12 Games, 10 Wickets, 8.6 Economy

Exactly the kind of trundler I hate. ( Bhuvi brigade)
Ineffective, predictable and zero impact on game.

Always prefer bowlers who can win you matches on their day rather than just doing the minimum and keep playing match after match without making any impact on the game.

Sandy has become an ipl veteran since the days when srh won their ipl title. Tbh the ledger is balanced when he won them one game at the death where he defended 14 and lost them a game he should have won by overstepping on the last ball against srh. That blunder has cost RR a playoff spot.

I agree with you on most part.

But Umran and Tyagi should have performed in some capacity. Nobody is asking for dream spells every match. But a decent overall match ( like 2/35 ) or a skillful couple of overs where they light up that phase of the match. Instead, if you go 12 runs an over and three  boundaries every over, no TM can back you.

If you compare with Harshit or Madhwal they have shown skills and performance and earned their place in XI. They are not lightning up the IPL either but they are giving consistent spells which are not match losing.

SRH mismanagement is definetly a problem. But ultimately a player need to perform on the field in some capacity and not have a bad match every time.

Tyagi has been our for some time and quite often the second season can be challenging for many reasons one of them being that teams have more material to study about you. It wasnt actually that long ago that he defended 5 in the last over.

Both bowled poorly whatever they played. Look at Harshit. Look at Akash Madhwal. Good bowling will work Everywhere.
