It is what you do with the $$$ that matters. 
 

In general, fans care more about on field performances and competitiveness than the $$$ that a board earns (or even what a player earns because of that).

Actually you will be surprised. There are some fans in India who genuinely love to experience vicarious pleasure through the lives of these sportsmen. Infact they worship them by building temples like some morons have for Dhoni bhai. Would not surprise me one bit if they experience sheer happiness after realizing how rich the Indian cricketers are compared to athletes from other nations.
