best place to gauge if an idea is doing well or not is in the youtube comments. feels like white americans cant connect to teams named "knight riders, super kings and MI". zero lack of vision from the ipl powerhouses. and no one here spoke about if the MLC TRULY was watched by native americans. Not the south asian kind- I mean actually white, black, latinos etc ". if they are not watching it - we can talk about this MLC all day long, but it wont make a difference. it will die out quickly.

Exactly my thoughts. Cricket can't survive in these countries without native support.

 

We don't want a mix of south asians in a USA XI. Same reason I hate teams like Oman, UAE and even Hongkong.

 

Nepal and Nambia are my next two bet on asssoacte making big just beacuse they have a homegrown team.

They ain't replacing baseball with cricket either way. Even football is not popular among local americans here despite MLS. Mostly immigrant followers.  Only women's football has some following. I am not sure if that is their goal.  They already establiehd Minor league cricket during panademic. My only guess is they want viewers from India as well. That is why the names  super kings, knight riders, Mumbai Indians.

Soccer is the fastest growing sport in America among locals. It ranks 3rd or 4th in terms of youth participation in organized leagues. Basketball and Baseball are the only clear front runners.

This is such short-sighted and ill-informed thinking.  

 

The expat fanbase for cricket can serve as the foundation that serves to keep the MLC profitable and keep it alive.  Building the fan-base beyond that can't happen overnight - it requires hard work over multiple decades.  But given the economics of T20 franchise cricket internationally, there is every reason to be optimistic that the MLC can find a viable space on the calendar with the USD Purchasing power, to sustain itself as a short 3-5 week annual 'season' attracting enough top class international talent to be a marketable and attractive product for the local expat fanbase, as well as some additional streaming revenue.  As long as the MLC brings in players of the calibre of Duplessis, Nicholas Pooran, Rashid Khan, Marco Jansen, Nortje, QdK, etc, its a very safe bet that the rich desi population will spend enough to support the league.  

 

The fact that the IPL teams are backing them is a huge plus, because these teams can absolutely afford to keep their investment going as a loss-leader for many years, given that their core IPL team is billion dollar profit machine (and growing).  Yes, its not ideal that these folks chose to keep their Indian IPL team names as 'branding' - but hey, if they are willing to take on millions in losses year over year, they are entitled to milk some "brand value" out of it.  So as much as I think its a bad choice, as an MLC supporter, I am willing to live with it.  

 

If short sighted folks who have no grasp on the business of sports get impatient that not enough "non-brown" Americans aren't showing up in 'youtube comments', that's their dumb assumption to make.

Do you know how many 'foreigners' play for England, NZ and even Australia?  

 

USA is an immigrant nation.  why shouldn't South Asian origin American citizens be part of an USA XI.  

 

It annoys me when desi folk spout prejudice against their own.  Its just ingrained colonization.

I have never watched even one full baseball game or NFL match. Watched basket ball though as Lakers fan. But I did watch atleast 2 or 3 full games of MLC. So I have no complaints. We are not running the business. So I don't care whether it is successful or not.  It is good to see top cricketers playing in USA. Only gripe is I don't have any matches being played near by.

Right now there are only 3 legit venues in the US ready for cricket - Dallas, NC and Florida.  Northeast and West Coast are going to get some within 5 years.  I was told Ambanis put a clause in that MLC can't add expansion team in NJ for next 4-5 years, and are working on getting a venue in NY in  the near term.  I drove 9 hours each way to watch the MLC game in person with my family, so I'm putting money where my mouth is.  I want to see MLC survive and thrive, and I feel it has a decent shot, but you never know.  Let's see.  I think structurally the big pre-requisites are in place, provided the funding taps stay open.

Yup. He used his reach the fullest. Definition of power hitter. WHen he is in the zone he spares nobody. Pandu would often tuk tuk against seamers and try to target spinners. There is no such business with Yusuf. He will go after everyone.
