Gukesh wins World Chess Candidates 2024. Becomes youngest ever contender for World Chess Championship crown.

Just 0.5 point difference between the leaders and -Caruana, Nakamura and Pragg.

4 games to go....anything can happen.  Someone like Carlsen is a beast in such clutch situations when he is trailing.

This is where Gukesh will need guidance to not take undue risk for a win.

The experience of Caruana and Nakamura will come into play here.

If Gukesh can win one of the remaining 4 games and draw the other 3 - he would be at 8.5 or  +3 and with a 90 % chance of being the tournament winner.

Anything less from Gukesh and it would be Nepo's tournament to lose.

Uneventful game between the leaders but that was kind of expected.

Happy for Vaishali, she gets out of the rut after a series of losses but she is still bottom

Happy for Caruana, final 2 rounds will be battle of nerves. But crybaby Nepo is clutch, have a sinking feeling that we'll get a rematch again with the Chinese fraud fluking a title once again.

Firouzja and Gukesh made it candidates because of system manipulation, their last minute arranged ganes were fishy and unsportsmanlike. So and Giri deserved to qualify on merit instead of these two. Ding pulled the same stunt in last cycle when Chinese federation arranged last minute games against other weaker Chinese players for him to qualify on rating. Nepo is a whining crybaby. At least Naka is an entertainer, albeit a dickhead.

Rooting for Caruana and Pragg, up to these two to save chess and bring some integrity back into the game, title.

Firouzja and his family are such unlikable people, despicable behavior once again. Picking fights with everyone, abuse/slander, his brother is prone to violence as well. Hope the loser finishes last.

Why do you call Ding a fluke? He has been 2800+ for a good amount of time. Carlsen rates him very high. He was second in candidates 2022 behind Nepo to earn WC 2023 final place in which he beat nepo in a neutral venue in Astana Kazakhstan (If the venue was China, one could have suspected foul play as we saw during the Asian games). I hope 2024 WC doesn't happen in China.

Did you see how he qualified to the candidates that time? Basically special matches were arranged for him against other Chinese players to help him qualify by rating.

And he only played the title match because Carlsen refused to defend, unlike Nepo he didn't win Candidates.

This point is not even valid. If there was a carlsen in Kasparov, Ananda era, even they arguably wouldn't be world champions as well.

They all won candidates or equivalent tournament. Ding didn't win Candidates. He didn't even fairly qualify to candidates

Again, he came 2nd behind Nepo in candidates beating caruana, hikaru, duda, radjabov, firouzja etc. in the candidates....he went along to beat nepo in the WC match in a neutral venue....he had been on average the 2nd best rated player behind carlsen in past 6-8 years...

2nd best rated player in past 6-8 years would still be Caruana.

He would be 6-8 years prior to Ding according to Fide classical ratings. Maybe we could check if there's such data available.

Ding became WC in April 2023...his classical ratings(listed monthwise on fide website) in 5 yrs from April 2018 to April 2023 were between 2791-2819...for fabi, it was 2752-2842 during the same period...quite close...but both clearly higher than nepo I guess.

Huge win for Gukesh in an absolute must win with Black.

He has stepped up to be the best among the Indian lads though Pragg has tried and played some gems

Vidit tbf has suffered trying to force results and consequently been stamped upon by the contenders.

Break now and then the final two rounds.

It is a logical approach. Finishing 2nd or 8th here makes no difference. Except in terms of prize $.

Everyone wants a shot at the World Championship. Vidit's taking risks and trying to force results is warranted.

Yeah that's true. He's had a fair go at making games as decisive as possible, given a good account of himself though the standings won't reflect it.

Nepo vs Gukesh winner will win the candidates. As things stand, even a draw benefits Gukesh.

Hopefully gukesh is nothing like gutkesh in cricket.
