Yes, Iyer and Gill are notoriously unreliable, and they are both in top 4

I think you are being extremely harsh on Gill.  Today he became the fastest ever to 2000 ODI runs. If that is not consistency, what is ?  he can't score 100 everytime.

 

Atleast he is not getting out in single digits in opening overs.

To put it simply, we don't have enough depth in both the departments.

 

What we have are -

 

5 genuinely good batters who can all contribute to a match winning cause on most days. 

 

5 genuinely good bowlers who can all turn the game on its head in the space of two overs in most conditions against any opponent. 

 

And if you ask me , whether we can win the World Cup with these resources -

match was done and dusted when Iyer hit that 50. he will crumble faster than a cookie.

No team has all bases covered. We should try to use what we have which is more than good enough to win the world cup for sure even if it's not perfect or an atg lineup. Conditions and crowd support both are firmly in our favour to help mitigate that.

yes, because the going will get worse for him vs SA. play him when pitch has something in it for spinners and/or teams are not strong vs spin

This squad is a massive upgrade.  We need to be a bit smarter especially Gill & Iyer.
