He needs to improve his T20 game though to fit well in middle order. Because he cannot hit that well , we need to make him abt at 3. Kind of issue Ajinkya Rahane has with KKR, Rahul Tripathi with CSK in past, There are many others who are ahead in pecking order who can be released. Robin Minz, Danish Malewar, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur would make way for others. asterix and Mariyam 2
asterix Posted May 14 Posted May 14 (edited) It took so many matches to get rid of toxic and useless captains. I okay with Bhumrah captaining in order to get him bowl better and with focus. I mean till he wasn’t captain, he was just going through motions. The main thing is that HaPa & SKY really harmed MI through their clueless captaincy. Bhumrah is much better captain than those two. Transfer him I think he can still be a good player, but not a captain suitable for MI I feel. It worked with new franchise like GT with inexperienced players. For a team full of divas and lots of history, Pandya was unsuccessful in blending youth with experience and I didn't really like how he treated some players like Tilak.

tapandrun Posted May 14 Posted May 14 (edited) Too much blame of Hardik as captain and player for Mi crashing out this season. The entire team has failed. Keeping it strictly to IPL only:-- Bhumrah has not picked any wkt your best bowler not picking any wkt and many games if not all he has not even bowled 135_ kmph. Rohit was injured or benching for half of the season. Sky with just 1 fifty and boult 2 wkts in the season with eco of 9.5+ This is MI core Rohit+Sky batting and boult and Bhumrah bowling <-- this was a dysfunctional core plus their new picks are no match to other new players from other teams. Even tilak apart from those 2 match winning innings his performance is below par hardly any innings in 145+ sr And in many ways it looked like team reject the captain as some of the players themselves wanted to be the captain Edited May 14 by tapandrun
Bigg Brother Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Tilak is the future- make him the Captain. Build a team around him. Time to look beyond Sky,Rohit and Hardik. Stan AF and asterix 2
crictime Posted May 15 Posted May 15 When the team wins the captain the captains of franchisee also gets credit after they win the trophy. Hardik Pandya is MI captain since last 3 years and inspite of having 5 first choice India T20i players he has failed to win an IPL trophy for MI. Bound to get some slack failing to win a trophy for 3 years. Stan AF and asterix 2

crictime Posted May 15 Posted May 15 The 2026 season of IPL is now in twilight phase. The performance of MI team has been so abysmal that a through review is need of the hour. Looking at few important aspect to begin with - I would request other MI fans who know the inside out of this successful and wonderful team to chip in with their views. Shall update more when time permits. Captaincy: Year wise captaincy for MI is as follows: 2008 - Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh 2009 - Sachin Tendulkar 2010 - Sachin Tendulkar 2011 - Sachin Tendulkar 2012 - Harbhajan Singh 2013 (T) - Ponting and Rohit Sharma. Ponting win loss ratio was 3:3 but he gave captaincy to Rohit because of his poor batting form. 2014 - Rohit Sharma 2015 (T)- Rohit Sharma 2016 - Rohit Sharma 2017 (T)- Rohit Sharma 2018 - Rohit Sharma 2019 (T)- Rohit Sharma 2020 (T)- Rohit Sharma 2021 - Rohit Sharma 2022 - Rohit Sharma 2023 - Rohit Sharma 2024 - Hardik Pandya 2025 - Hardik Pandya 2026 - Hardik Pandya Hardik Pandya, in captaincy role, has failed to win a trophy for MI since taking over the mantle in 2024. His comeback to MI in leadership role has not worked at all. Accountability cannot be shrugged and MI would be better off if he is relieved from captaincy. Rohit Sharma is the most successful MI captain, however at 40 years the captaincy transition should not be done to him. Aging of core players: The core of MI has aged or frequently injured: Rohit Sharma (40 y), Suryakumar Yadav (36 y) Hardik Pandya - (33 y), Jasprit Bumrah - (32 y is not in favor of pace bowlers, has repeatedly missed 4 to 5 matches in last couple of seasons). Considering the age factor and also a fact that it has been six years since MI last won IPL trophy in 2020, this is the ideal time to reset. These Indian superstars who are getting 15 to 20 crores every year and not performing will never retire on their own. Some of these are paid too much but the returns are abysmal due to workload on an aeging body. MI management needs to take a call and do an urgent reset. Budget constraints: Time and again, MI has carried superstars in the team. In the pursuit of retaining players like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrahm Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, MI has let off T20i greats like Jos Buttler alongside finishers like Tim David. even Ishan Kishan could not be retained because too much was being splashed on the retained core. Highest Paid: Jasprit Bumrah - 18 Cr - 3 wickets in 12 matches and dropped 1 catch of some player which cost MI one match. (Should be retained for 2026 but his returns should decided whether he stays for 2027) Suryakumar Yadav - 16.35 Cr - 195 runs in 11 matches. (Should be released, is 36 years now as well) Hardik Pandya - 16.35 Cr - Scored 146 runs and took 3 wickets. (Should be retained but his returns should decided whether he stays for 2027) Rohit Sharma - 16.3 Cr - Scored 268 runs in 7 matches at avg of 44 and sr of 164 (His strike rate in last 2 seasons ahs improved but he still does not maximizes the powerplay and MI would get a better player for PP in lesser amount. Already 39 years and this is the right time to find his replacement. Should be released. Both him and Hardik Pandya miss many matches due to injury. In some matches which Hardik Played last year, he did not even bowl) Trent Boult -12.5 Cr (Should be released. Will be 37 by the time he plays next IPL and that is too much for a pace bowler who anyways does not bowls at a good tick) Deepak Chahar -9.25 Cr (Should be released) Tilak Varma -8 Cr Naman Dhir - 5.25 Cr ( His fielding is very sloppy, but he does deserves another season to give him another chance to see if hi improved his fielding. He should also work on his hitting skill so that MI does not has to play him at No 3 only. and Tilak Varma can bat at 3.) Would be sharing opinion on the below later: Will Jacks -5.25 Cr AM Ghazanfar -4.8 Cr Sherfane Rutherford -2.6 Cr Mitchell Santner -2 Cr Shardul Thakur -2 Cr Ryan Rickelton -1 Cr Corbin Bosch -75 Cr Robin Minz -65 L Raj Angad Bawa -30 L Raghu Sharma -30 L Ashwani Kumar -30 L Mayank Markande -30 L Captaincy Transition. AI gives names of players of previous seasons. My post on average would probably be one per day if there was a feature to check it. And 1 post for Mumbai to banta hi hai. Surely that much of timepass is fine for me. Always a Mumbaite and always a supporter of Mumbai. Jeena yaha , marna yaha, iske siwa janna kaha. asterix 1
