If Argentina beats Germany, India has to beat either of Argentina, Netherlands or Spain in just one match to win a medal. They ll get two chances to do that.

Hume koi bhi medal nahi chahiye Prabhu, only gold :--D

Considering how we played in our last 3 matches, should aim for gold. This is not a Tokyo scenario where we were clearly inferior to the top teams.

Our goal should be gold. This mentality of settling for any medal must stop. Losers mentality. No wonder we finish last in many competitions. Indians must be mentally conditioned to handle the pressure and bring their A games to finish 1st whenever they compete. Like how the Chinese are conditioned into doing so.

We were 1 min away from semi finals in Sydney Olympics against poland. We then conceded in 70th minute. I can give you countless examples where india looked as world beaters.. and lost..@Gollum can testify.. a regular hockey watcher like me knows the pain… even the mention of malaysia triggers memories..i m sure you wont even know why.. so yes its easy to aim for gold but remember we had to wait for 40 years to get an olympic medal that too a bronze in hockey..

The biggest change against India and esp Pak was converting from a grass field to astroturf for hockey. Imagine soccer going from grass to astroturf.....

The game totally changed from dribbling to what it is today.

Its all fine about Dhyanchand but he did not play on astroturf and what he did on grass fields will not work today.

The game was changed to suit the europeans but credit to us that we have adapted to that change. Don't know what next they will come up with.....

The modern game has totally removed the midfield and creativity from the game. Earlier you used to have midfielders who controlled the game just like you have in football. But Europeans changed the game to "increase the pace" and now all you see is back and forth action and majority of the game is played at either end.

Gone are the days a skillful midfielder could direct the game from midfield and conjure an attack. There's simply no creativity and imagination needed anymore the way it used to be earlier. Now fitness and ability to run continuously for 60 mins is what matters the most. Dribbling is simply taken out of the game and holding on to the ball is penalized. Earlier hockey used to be so similar to football and used to be beautiful to watch. Now it's all breathless action with premium on fitness and pace.

Looks like we will be well short of the Tokyo tally, so much for all the hype and claims of improvement.

If we get two golds, this would be our best Olympics yet. Always number of golds matter, even if we get less than 7, a gold in say hockey and Javelin, would definitely make up for any disappointments. Our position in the medal table would have improved by far.
