Japan has a strong baseball culture. They copy mostly American pop culture: baseball, wrestling (wwe kind), rock music, hip hop etc. they are pretty crazy about baseball.

As a parent in USA, why wouldn't you encourage your child to take some sport in HS at least? Best infrastructure on the planet, good coaches, respect in society etc. If nothing at least will keep your kids fit, disciplined, confident, sociable....builds character etc. 

ptsd from childhood in india.

 

in india, engineer/doctor only way to escape poverty (even more so in the 80s-90s when they were growing up)

 

in usa, you can still lead a healthy happy life w/o working in silicon valley etc.

 

chinese have that too.

surprisingly there is field hockey culture in some places in USA but dominated mostly by white women: mostly seen in places with suburban white people. In fact during 2016 the Indian women’s hockey team had stayed near the place I live as they had best facilities for hockey. Only later I came to know that I knew one of the guys overseeing their arrangements, missed out an opportunity to meet them or at least get a selfie

even video games, animations, comics they took from the usa and put their own spin on it.

 

the first mangakas (tezuka etc) got their hands on american comics the american soldiers would bring over and then sell off to second hand book shops.

Lacrosse is already there in USA, then ice hockey. Tough for OG hockey to break through.

Tough to break through for Indian girls as I said, most coaches etc are all white middle aged ladies who dominate and run the sport.  There is racism and I can 100 grantee that.

 

Just like Cricket in USA is dominated by Desis both administratively as well as game interest wise.

Olympic gold any day. Olympics is way more prestigious, WC a more recent tournament, 6 decades younger.
