Doubles is a second rate game that's why the likes of Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Sampras, Agassi never played it seriously and neither would have Paes if he was a good singles player. Theres far more money and glory/fame in singles. You can keep performing mental gymnastics convincing yourself otherwise.

Thats irrelevant. You sound like one of those typical khalikhopri types who wanna put down desis unnecessarily. Most of the top players dont play doubles because they cannot physically handle playing singles and doubles. When tournaments were not so tightly packed in the past, plenty of singles players played doubles. You may wanna check how many doubles titles Johnny Mac has, kiddo. 

 

Again, dont disrespect one of the greats of the game.

The same John McEnroe who now says doubles is pointless. McEnroe's peak was 15 years earlier than Paes. This is what he had to say about doubles - “I don’t know what doubles is bringing to the table. The doubles are the slow guys who aren’t quick enough to play singles. Would it be better off, no disrespect, but would it be better off if there was no doubles at all, and we invest all the money we save elsewhere so that some other guys who never really got into a good position in the sport, end up playing more in singles?”

 

Paes's contemporaries like Sampras and Agassi didn't give a damn about doubles and that's who he should be compared to, but not McEnroe.

Again, irrelevant. He should be compared to Woodforde, woodbridge, the bryan brothers etc- all of whom are decorated and respected in their countries for their accomplishment, but i dont expect a treasonous gora-chaatu to understand.

Australia has the likes of Laver, Rafter and Hewitt. America has Sampras, Agassi, McEnroe, Connor. These are the players that are lauded in those countries, not the Bryan brothers and Woodsomethings.

Mediocrity in sports is celebrated in India. 

Amritraj took India to Davis Cup final, beating the GOAT Australian team on route, India would have won the final as well but boycotted since the opponent was South Africa in 1974 (apartheid reasons). Has 25+ wins (against 40 losses) against former world number ones and ATGs like Laver, Newcombe, Rosewall, Santana, Connors, McEnroe, Vilas etc.  Did it despite asthma, first popular and regarded player from Asia/3rd world. Though Ramanathan Krishnan rose up to world number 3, Amritraj is widely respected as the superior player, by greats. Anyway he has been given this award in 'contributor' category.....he has been a commentator/expert for the last 3 decades, and organized ATP events in India for another 2.

 

Paes is one the most accomplished doubles player of all time, good Davis Cup record, Olympic bronze in singles in 1996 Atlanta. If Bryan brothers, Peter Fleming, Woodies, Nestor etc. can be bestowed these awards, why not Paes? In fact his Atlanta bronze puts his singles achievements over many of these doubles greats.

Why this inferiority complex? American subs keep praising the Bryan brothers to the skies. Tennis fans on their forums are well aware about him, his volleying skills etc. 

 

Nobody apart from you has compared Paes to Federer, Djokovic or Sampras. No one here compared Bindra to Bolt or Phelps. What even is the point of your rants?
