Did you forget the Ban series just before Pant's injury ?

For spinners, unless you don't pick it at the time of release. You will never be able to judge accurately.

I don't remember that series .There is no doubt KL Rahul was pet project of Dravid.Dravid screwed Indian team just to fit KL Rahul.He can tell anything he wants now but that is the fact.

 

We also have to remember that that useless  Rahul had healthy Pant in the team and still did not change the batting line up in 2022 t20 world cup.But he makes Pant  number 3 out of the blue in last t20 world t20.

 

I will give Gambhir a pass for  this series but I really hope they tell Rahul , please take back seat, we will call you when we need you in all formats.

You are right , Rahane was one of the worst players of spin bowling.Rahane had his moments, did you forget his two hundreds in SL that too after Herath dominated India in first test in 2015.

 

I agree cricket has changed now,  but given these conditions in which India batted, many Indian teams would have struggled.

 

Iyer is better player of spin than he is against fast bowling. But he has been found out against spin against England and here too.

Dravid & co hadn't developed a single fast bowler.

You can see the impact, Bumrah less bowling is at Zimbabwe level. Shami too is ageing and cant be relied till 2027 WC.

We didn't had Pant at that time.

Shastri was talking about wrap on the knuckles about him.

Pant came in his zone since the Australia series 2020-21. Since then KL has no business in the Indian Team.

Spot on, Gambhir being the coach and not giving a guy like Harshit even a chance was sad.

 

Siraj IMO is done being useful in any format.They need to look beyond him.

 

Arshdeep is not an answer for any longer format .

Its ok to lose in these useless bilaterals than messing up in the main tournament. TM is looking short term now which is CT. ODI world cup preparation can start after that.

Take some positives from this series and build on that. CT will be played on better pitches.

 

1. Riyan Parag does belong in ODI. Gives immense balance to side.

2. Axar and Sundar too came out well in this series. Bowling allrounders.

3. Rahul or Pant is still undecided but both may go to CT. 

4. Dube doesn't belong in ODI.

5. Siraj/ Arshdeep doesn't fit in CT plans but one of them will be picked.

6. Iyer flopped here but he is a match winner on good wickets. I will retain him. Again short term planning for CT.

 

If everybody fit, here is the first XI for CT and this team is damn good on good pitches.

What we learned from SL odi series would not be umplemented .

Rohit,Virat,Gill,Iyer,Rahul,Pant,Siraj ,Arshdeep would be in the playing 11 due to their capacity to create huge interest in cricket.

 

This players are backed by their IPL franchises ,their PR,their advertisers,their fans.

 

Jadeja,Pandya,Bumrah will join them and this team will be  huge hit irrespective of their perfomance. 

 

Jaiswal, Parag,Harshit, would have to wait for  their oppurtunities.

No KL was dropped in Melbourne test in 2018 but due to injuries to others he came and also he was not in the squad in first ICC test finals.But again Gill's injury there brought this guy back then in tests and Pant's injury brought him back into odis.

 

Him getting chances in 2018 and him getting chances now after guys like Jaiswal and others emerged  are two different things.

Senior  tag? He is/was  never good enough, giving him chances hoping that he becomes core player in 2017/18  and now are two different things. I can understand him getting chances then but not now.

He has become core player due to those chances only which came despite inconsistent performances.
