What happened to census of India?

Last it was done in 2011.

 

It was not done in 2021 because of COVID, but now we are fag end of 2024.

 

What's stopping govt from getting census done by now?

 

When will it be done?

 

Any experts know about it?

In another 2 decades it will touch 200 crores, so they figured why bother!!

It will happen when it will happen but it pretty useless in digital age.

 

1. Govt. has aadhar enrollment data - 138.6cr aadhars till August 2024. State wise, district wise, age wise, gender wise etc.

It has Mobile subscription data - 115 cr active sim cards etc....it also has PDS data.

 

But yes, the useless excercise of census will happen

Aadhar s don't give you true picture. Which area  more people are living ,gender ratio, religion.etc  Majority of people in India when living on rent don't even update aadhar. Census is very important

Click on the link I shared, you can click on the map, any state and any district within the state to see publically available data, gender ratio, below 5 age, age 5-18, over 18.

 

That's only public data. They can get whole host of other data they they need.

 

Census is also manual, approximate, prone to errors, expensive and happens once in a decade. 

 

Anyways, it will happen.

As I said Migrants don't update aadhar. My Bihari cook wanted to purchase bike. Yet he did not have address proof . I have to give my aadhar as landlord so he can purchase bike.

There are multiple ways...they can track how many sim cards are active in any district, state. 

 

Iirc, for balakot airstrikes, ntro pin pointed that terrorist housing building had ~300 active sims before the strike.

 

In census as well, people give wrong info. It is known that some group in particular overstates their numbers to project influence.

A Punjabi Sikh man once had a Bihari cook. He wanted dhaba style food. But he didn’t want to call the cook Maharaj!! But Maharaj insisted on it.
