India needs boring batsmen

You don't need to be a boring batsman to have solid defence technique. The most stylish batsman of this era played 33(220) and 47(297) when the situation demanded.

 

We need players who have strong basic techniques and a management that guides them according to the situation. Jaiswal is a solid batsman with good defense, a better coach and captain would have guided him to play gritty cricket for atleast a session to inspire confidence in rest of the batsmen in dressing room, but then we have idiot captain who gives 3 catches in 18 balls on the other end.

THey had good time for a while as partners. High time they separate Jaiswal from Rohit. Otherwise Jaiswal will be under constant pressure. Need a well rounder opener who can complement Jaiswal. Not this walking wicket. There were two partnerships in recent memory that came in adverse situation. One wrong move India would have lost the match.  One Jurel/Kuldeep partnership. Other one Jurel/Gill partnership. Jurel showed great judgement in both the innings.  It is not mandatory he should only be considered as a keeper.

yes. His game is a bit more secure. Sarfraz is  bit of a risk taker. Can be trapped by smart teams

Looks like Easwaran is struggling in India A, so moving Gill to open looks like the best option. But then again, Sarfaraz had a couple of bad Ind A outings too before settling down.

If Eswaran seems to be having technical issues they shouldn't hesitate to pick the player who look better.

Why can't they play both ways. Prime eg is AbDv. He could make 100 of 50 and 50 of 200 balls. As a player you should be good enough to play acc to situation. The fact is they just can't apply themselves and has poor technique like the bazballers.

Easwaran is nearing 30. Bit too late to pick him

 

On topic, one 'boring' batsman India can look to retry is Hanuma Vihari. Guy was hero of BGT but got dropped due to not being flashy enough

I don't think we have such players anymore with T20 format around. It requires insane amount of discipline, self-restraint, technique to switch between different formats on the fly. I dno't think anyone has that. Kohli at his peak had that attribute. But he was largely a ground stroke player which kinda suited him for different formats. Current lot is struggling to adapt. Specialist is the way to go. Gill really looked decent in the later half of england series. But he lost his loi mojo.  It is better to have exclusive players who can tuk tuk

TBF, those 50 off 200 came on uber flat decks. Only issue was patience. Its much tougher to back your defense for long on tough tracks

True. Unfortunately, he has been picked and will likely be RGS' replacement for the first test. If it were up to me, I'd go with Gill and Jaiswal, and slot both Jurel and Pant into the XI.

i am not totally sold on him.  Taller Sai Sudarshan has much more flexible game from what i have seen. Played in county did well. Played in SA did well. Now doing well in Australia. Also somewhat clutch quality is there.  He may or may not click.  But i would take my chance with Sai Sudarshan.

But Sai is not in the BGT XVIII, so that is moot. Given who is available for selection, moving Gill to open with Jaiswal and slotting Jurel into the MO >> Easwaran opening with Jaiswal.

He won't play for sure. Gill or Kela will open

How is Baba Indrajith? Seems to be scoring a lot of runs in domestic but haven't seen him bat
