Actually, US has had presence in Greenland since WW2 & has 1951 Defense agreement with Denmark on access to Greenland, amnded in 2004 (https://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/den001.asp). Denmark would certainly be amenable if they need to make some changes to counter Russia, so it isn't simplly access to Artic through greenland that is his concern. Pvt industrialists can be put under pressure by US. But govt PSUs will continue to buy Russian Oil.
