i am going to request you to

put thinking hats on.

For me, I think things have gon beyond repair for West. US.

Ask yourself a simple question. What if China says to non West and West. From now on, We will accept Renbi as currency for goods We sell to you.  Or take it mxt level with non western nations and says, you must trade with us in Renbi. Or nxt level. Tell whole world we will sell stuff in Renbi.

now if above seems like plausible, nxt level,- What if RIC or BRIC figure out joint benefit share mechanism and then China launches a BRICS currency. Russia+African resource, Chinese heft + capacity and indian Human resources + Consumption, backing a BRICS currency.

Think Xi has alllmost won the Chess match with USA. Its just that many can’t see a Check Mate 10 mooves fown the line

With these tariffs, inflation will rise in US as most got countries got the tariff which will be paid by people of USA.  Like Indians pay if they any imported US items like recent Tesla car which cost 31 lacs in USA and 62 lacs in India ex-showroom because of 100% import duty. Who is paying that duty to the govt, not Tesla but the Indian who is buying the Tesla car. Same way, US citizens will be paying the tariffs whether 15-20-25-30%.

Not necessarily. It can eat into the profit margins of the exporter.

US is not run by illiterates and certainly not by the POTUS alone

This guy has gotta be the dumbest president in history.
Creating a self inflicted problem that’s unnecessarily stressing the market and limiting its potential.
And then when this moron is confronted with data, he fires the messenger.

This clown would have been in check had these numbers been released a bit earlier.

Although in today’s case, it’s mind boggling for the BLS to revise the numbers that massively for the last 2 months.  That itself is also embarrassing and honestly a fireable act.

He probably has himself & the other genius in musk to thank for that. This is from ealry june:

Quote

The BLS notice states that the collection reductions “may increase the volatility of subnational or item-specific indexes” and are expected to have “minimal impact” on the overall index.

The Trump administration’s drastic cutbacks of government spending and the federal workforce have economists, researchers and statisticians sounding the alarm that the reliability and accuracy of economic data could become a casualty to those efforts.

“The BLS’s need to infer more data points due to personnel and funding constraints is deeply concerning,” Gregory Daco, EY-Parthenon’s chief economist, told CNN. “It raises legitimate questions about the reliability and timeliness of critical economic indicators.”

Problem is India & few others may not be okay with China backed currency. But if he keeps pushing India away. It might take itself & the global south towards China.

China and India are both US enemies.

US will likely have to align with one

Idea is to promote local products. Like Indian made cars over Tesla. That won't impact overall inflation unless they are essential goods

Yes but Indian products are cheaper anyway. Same can't be said about USA made stuff where manufacturing is expensive, labour is high. An iPhone made in USA will cost much higher than made in India.

Tariffs will be paid by importers who will have to increase the prices eventually.

Yes can be by importers , who will in turn demand cheaper prices from exporters.

Depends on who is more desperate , the seller from India or the buyer in US

The Indian seller loses out to competition. If a textile exporter from India is competing with someone from say Kangladesh. The buyer will be paying less to the same garment from Kangladesh as tariffs are at 19% compared to 25% from India. It will not be immediate as stock is already purchased a few months ahead based on demand. But, will happen eventually.

India and others can play the waiting game until then , as they are in key essentials sector. Generic drugs in US is a huge sector as consumers pay dirt cheap for drugs imported from India. It it costs 25% more to a white MAGA  hillybilly from West Virginia , people will ask the government and congressmen , wtf is happening?  Trump will have to relent or be prepared to lose mid-terms. It is all political as well.

Cut down the electricity. Kangladesh won't get help from anywhere else, they will remain stranded. No country could function without that, and Kanglus don't have energy options.

India aligning with US, means we will have to leave Russia. Extremely tough call for us, unless Putin is ready to "pause" the Ukraine war to gather time, and currently army positions become the new boundary, while Ukraine not getting into NATO. Can be a win-win scenario for all parties except Zelensky.

US-China alliance is extremely unlikely, there is enough animosity between the two, unless US is ready to sacrifice Taiwan, Philippines for their benefit, it can happen, but will dent trust on US.

Third variable can be RIC coming together, another unlikely scenario, but if happens. The whole dynamics of South East Asia will change, and Middle East (plus Iran-Pakistan) will become a battle ground between Western bloc and Eastern bloc. Tough for us in terms of the challenges, on the Western border, but it's needed anyway, coz a MEGA war is round the corner.

In terms of heft, You need more than one P5 to launch a global currency. So atleast, Russia China has to come together.

Sticking point is probably wealth sharing percentage due to the new currency. I will be surprised if India isn’t part of that currency union block. But my point is, Chinese are very close to launching the new unilateral currency.

In my understanding, India dont want a new currency. Tbh, it makes sense as well as it is the only nation amongst RIC who has decentish relations with US, and they want to continue till we become atleast 10 trillion economy.

India probably wants to do the trade in local currency, that way they can flow under the Dollar radar. Directly launching a new currency means confronting US head to head, which India realizes the time isnt right yet.

Only issue is trade imbalance, India's export is still way less than it's import.
