Test cricket has become a burden for all countries not named Australia. And even the Aussies will come down a couple of notches once their big three are gone.

I think Harshit was kept as a cover for Prasidh, who had a minor niggle. They are both classified as tall, bouncy, quick pacers  ( although Prasidh did not do his job at all in tests ).

 

After Prasidh recovered, Harshit was sent back.

 

Now Kamboj is being brought in place of Arshdeep, both being classified as new ball bowlers.

 

I was in favour of retaining Harshit as he is a very competitive and smart pacer unlike Prasidh.

Can't categorize them like that. Harshit has the skills to adapt. Kamboj at max can be like Bhuvi

In case of Prasidh they're actually better.

Kamboj is one of the very few fast bowlers with braced front knee. AMong the current only Bumrah and Cummins have braced front leg. Even their slow release speed deliveres can be faster.  Rabada, Hazlewood, Siraj, Starc they all collapse.

Harshit Rana had a marked drop off in pace as he got to his second and third spells in Australia. He seemed to run out of puff the longer the innings went on. Unless he has improved his fitness, I cannot see him getting through a 5 day test without a similar issue in this series as well.

Like with a lot of players, he seems the panacea because he is not in the squad.

Harshit has played a grand total of 2 tests, certainly not naming him because he's not in the squad,yes he drops his pace but can up it the same way in mid of an spell

There is no real need to pack the squad with "pacers" in Manchester. What they need is a group of additional bowlers who can bowl with control and not leak runs. Bumrah and Siraj are playing as he front line seamers anyway so the key ask from others is to keep control as well as pick up the odd wicket. Harshit may have many qualities but control is not his key attribute. He can do an enforcer type role when required but I don't think the current makeup of the rest of the squad accomodates that

I was talking about the overall bench strength wrt pacers

Siraj is going to play 4 tests in a row,I don't think he too can maintain his lines and stamina is already in question

He did well in the warm up games. Both Harshit and Kamboj should be ahead of Prasidh Krishna.
