That's not an excuse to be in the state that Rohit is in. If you're playing at that level, it should be a basic responsibility to remain fit. Look at guys like Lebron, Ronaldo, Messi, Chris Paul... just to name a few.

When actors at 50 look ripped these guys shouldn't have problem with that. THey don't have to have 6 packs. But bit athletic. You cannot be athletic if you are fat.

Kohli has shown immense level of dedication and passion for fitness. You won't see it commonly.

 

Rohit IMO can take inspiration from Umesh Yadav...who is as old as Rohit. Yet is fitter and never had a belly.

I think Rohit and Kohli want a shot at the 3 big accolades. They have 1 of the 3. T20WC, WTC, ODI WC. 

 

They'll retire from Tests if India doesn't make it to the championship game. Otherwise they'll retire after the championship game regardless of the outcome

 

Similarly, they'll try their best to stay around for one more crack at the ODI WC.

Stocky is different from fat though. I just have to make that clear. Bavuma is stocky. Not fat. He can move faster than almost any Indian cricketer

Kohli was in the winning team for the 2011  ODI WC as well as the 2024 T20WC.

Rohit has won two T20 world cups ( 2007 and 2024).

They have had more than a shot. They have been very successful by almost any modern standard.

"Wanting" to win the WTC is all well and good but even if India somehow get into the final, making a title pursuit secondary to aged players pursuing individual milestones would be the height of conceit. It will probably happen considering the way Indian cricket culture and media work.
