yes bowling is the whole problem :nice:

A guy who is known to have short ball weakness repeatedly bully us even on fast pitches when ROhit captains. Eventually that one innings proved to be too costly.

If you want tight bowling use 5th bowler for that. Main bowlers have to attack.

How would a fifth bowler be able to bowl to tight lines and bring down the economy?

Do you think Reddy can do that?

There is always a place for one stock bowler, Akashdeep can do that.

I don't know what makes you say that the main bowlers should always attack, the likes of Hazelwood and Southee bowl the same length consistently and make batsman err in judgement,

I mean if the whole intention is to stop runs, 5th bowler can be used.

Hazelwood bowls attacking lines and lengths, its just that hes super accurate with them. That happens over him. Starc still gets hit on occasions.

We didn't prepare well for this series. Harshit should have played v NZ if he was gonna play here.

Prasidh just has height. He deosn't have oomph in his deliveries. That is my main concern. He cannot rattle players. We don't have bowlers with strong shoulder action or even strong shoulders. Someone who can be as rapid as Mayank yadav. Indi failed to groom by giving chances to lulloo bowlers like Unadkat, Mukesh.

Arshdeep is probably our tallest bowler? He can be groomed if he has interest in Tests. He is far from a finished article for longer format. He can swing the ball in the air a great asset. Plus at his height he can generate good bounce. He has to be  a couple of yards quicker

Fair to say, fast bowling cupboard is bare.

We have our most potent attack of all time in 2012-18 period. All in their prime.

Ishant, Bumrah & Shami as first choice.
Umesh, Bhuvi & Pandya as backup.

Fast forward 2025, we have a
- prime Bumrah
- old Shami
- Average Siraj

Backps are poor, untested and non-threatening as of now.
Rana, Prasidh, Akashdeep, Mukesh

There is no incentive for express bowlers for playing Tests anymore. THey can be rapid for 4 overs and be done with it. Guys like Umran, Tyagi couldn't even break into playing XI there let alone Tests.

Rana is yaar only 2 tests old!

Is this a way to dismiss youngsters so early and then we cry for newcomers?

Umran(maybe),Tyagi don't seem interested either in red ball

Liked by the way how well England have done by easing their mostly white ball bowlers barring Carse into red ball cricket ,talking about Atkinson, now reaping rewards

We too can copy that

I watched the whole match, I can say with certainty that our bowling performance was below par.

First of all, to be hundred percent clear the loss is on our batsmen.

The way Head was smashing us we never were able to apply any sort of pressure, it was just Bumrah doing his stuff or Aussie batsman playing a rash shot.

We need a bowler who bowls tighter lines and doesn’t get hit too often, Akashdeep looks like the right choice as of now.

We should go with 4 pacers and Sundar for the next match.

Yeah, spinner is anyways hardly useful plus Sundar can bowl tight  without taking wickets. Extends the batting.

If BCCI has no foresight India will be in deep sh**  moment Bumrah picks up an injury or is out of form. We will look bang average. Worse than Bangladesh pace unit.

We don't need to be so Harsh on Rana, he is inexperienced playing just his 2nd match, his lengths were wrong, Aus have a great record at Adelaide. It takes some experience to get lengths rights in such conditions, yes some are geniuses who get it right quickly, but those are a rare breed.

Rana has a lot of potential, it was pretty evident in the first test, one test does not change that. There are problems in this team, Rana is least of concerns.

Not being overly harsh on Rana. But this was a pink ball test. Paradise for 135+ quick bowlers.
Experience or no experience, you can't have a stinker playing in helpful conditions. You just have to do the minimum. Pick up couple of wickets, keep reasonably tight and support Bumrah. This is the least of expectations in helpful conditions. Prasidh had the same stinker on that green mamba in SA. Unacceptable.

Look at Carse vs NZ.  He is just 4 test old but in helpful conditions, he blew the kiwis away.

Because they have grown up bowling in these conditions, fast bowling in India is very different from bowling in SENA countries.

It's the same with spin, why rookie Indian spinners will do better than rookie foreign spinners, it's a different thing now with spin but that's because now our batsman are just sh*t against spin.

There are no young bowlers who can come into the team in completely alien conditions ( Australia+pink ball+ D/N) and not have an off day and one off day is literally all Rana has had in the series so far. It is up to the captain to manage him through these periods.

People talk as if past Indian bowlers always performed every single time they played overseas. Even experienced bowlers have the odd off day. If you don't allow youngsters the lattitude to try and fail sometimes, there is no hope for development. No Indian bowler is going to learn how to bowl in conditions like this anywhere in first class cricket so this is the only way available. Otherwise you can just keep avoiding using youngsters and keep persisting with old players who keep playing on fumes as long as physically possible.

Thats fair but no one is having expectation of Rana or Prasidh to demolish oppositions on their own. You get the helpful conditions- make it count. Just be a good support. Nothing more.

Prasidh in that 2 day SA test and Rana in this 3 day pink ball test. Can't have better conditions to bowl. Still messed it up.

I hope Rana ( and Prasidh ) will prove me wrong. But I am not much optimistic.

yes. I still don't think this is the ceiling of Rana. Our captain is woefully poor in extracting the best ouf of pace bowlers with strategies. Cummins being the captain and fast bowler set up each and every batsmen at will as he directly used the intel against every batsman. Bumrah as a captain did the same in the last match. Come this match we see generic field without blocking favorite scoring areas of Head.

Hazelwood bowls attacking lines, his main job is to take wickets not control runs. Its just that hes very accurate. That comes with experience. Even Starc sprays now and then.

Bumrah is our stock bowler. Attacking yet accurate.

Field placement also plays a vital role in controlling runs. 7-2 fields or a bouncer barrage backed by right fieldset will control runs without being defensive.

The job of 5th bowler is to control runs and give main bowlers a breather. Wickets are a bonus.

India needs batters who can score runs. India needs seniors who actually perform and are not in the side without doing anything for more than 5 years. India needs players who don't walk into the team just because they're anointed captain for lifetime.

Eventually bowlers will run out of steam when batters can't even last 50 overs on Day 1 of a Test. Bowlers performed a miracle in  the 1st Test but expecting them to do it time and again is unrealistic. If we had even managed to score 270-280, which wasn't asking for much at Adelaide, bowlers would've won us the match. But getting bowled out consistently for 150-180 isn't gonna win you much no matter how great your bowling is.
