These pacers are the best right now. If we arent going to play them, then whats the use.

 

If Siraj is weaklink then go for Harshit, Akash & Prasidh along with Bumrah. Give Akash new ball and he will make inroads.

Yes replace Siraj with Harshit. But we can't have 4th unreliable pacer with batting already poor.

 

NKR is doing a good job. Use him more.

Won't be a wrong move to let NKR bat at no 7, while Jadeja at 5 & Pant at 6. 

 

Prasidh has improved his batting, Harshit too needs bit of backing. Akash & Bumrah can also contribute. None of them are like Siraj with the bat.

 

Bowlers can't keep on covering the Butts of batters. They too need some time to get a breather.

Yes, he can. Our bowlers can have off days. If two of three have off days, you are doomed. Jadeja with the ball did nothing while conceding close to 100 runs. A fourth pacer could have helped here. We may have bowled them out earlier. Spinner is anyway a nonentity on pitches like these.  Your three seamers doing the job, nothing like it but we have to think about it as they have not.

What did Siraj do on a helpful pitch?Pick best 3 pacers first .We needed Harshit here instead of Siraj.We have Reddy too who's doing a fair job.

 

Spinner comes in majorly in 3rd 4th innings but we need the batting more. 

 

Rohit bowled spin way too much in first innings. Should have used Reddy more. He actually looked better than Siraj

In an ideal world, if we can drop the two senior non-performers, the team would look a lot better. We can bring in Jurel and Sundar (or another pacer) in place of Rohit and Kohli, and let Bumrah captain.

 

The team would look million times better but here we are. We've to carry these two passengers for eternity.

If this test is drawn...then we will go to Melbourne with unchanged XI (unless Shami comes back, then Akashdeep will be dropped).

 

I am more tensed about my Hotstar subscription, they will keep on showing Kohli's vs Rauf in Melbourne now...and how Melbourne is a perfect place for King to set his empire back.

Shami is not coming to Australia. That is the right decision else we could have the same situation as the Aussies have with Hazlewood being rushed back during his recovery. Akashdeep bowled and batted well enough for there to be no doubt about his starting the next match.

Difference is that Shami has already played a few matches. IMO it's worth taking a punt as Shami can't do any worse than Siraj. We desperately need support for Bumrah and Siraj ain't it.

Mcg is a pacy track ,you need 3 Pacers + 1 Fast bowling AR to give rest to the main seamers,spinners will not get any help

Shami has played  one 4 day and a few T20 games and during them he has already had some swelling in his knee that was being looked at at the end of every spell. In no way has he been tested in a test match workload scenario and certainly not on hard Australian grounds. Plus he has not bowled in test match settings since June 2023  unlike Hazelwood who has been playing tests recently. So it isn't even clear how well he is bowling even if his physical fitness passes muster.  He seems like the messiah just because he is not in the side but at his age it is a risk that doesn't need to be taken. It is entirely possible that he will break down if rushed in like Hazelwood has here. Siral can be brainless on the field but he is the 4th highest wicket taker in the series with 11 wickets at 25 each which is perfectly acceptable. He is not the problem with the Indian team despite the evident lack of grey matter sometimes.

I think judging spinners when head is running rampant is not a good idea...spinners are best when the opposition is looking to get set.. when head is in such a good form..every bowler will look pedestrian. We need to drop one or both of Rohit and Kohli ideally  but since they won't get dropped..we have to choose the bitter pill of dropping Reddy who is actually batting well to just have a chance of bowling Aussies out...Nitish Reddy is a Ganguly level bowler and can be handy in England or NZ..not here.

 

Given our seniority culture..let's play this team

Only bowled 14 overs entire series and has taken 2 wickets. Was troubling Smith with his bounce in first innings.
