I just wish Gill and Jaiswal open the batting. They will be an awesome pair. It doesn't matter who captains or vice-captains the team. Rinku Singh and Dhruv Jurel have been absolutely robbed. They are at the peak of their batting abilities and should've been played in ODIs. Similarly, NKR and Siraj have done nothing wrong and deserved a place. Alas, Ro-Ko-Pant continue to get the limelight. ICT are not even trying special spinners apart from Kuldeep Yadav, who failed to show at WC '23. Varun Chakravarthy and Kumar Kartikeya are options to be had. Anyhow, I only hope the team follows a batting-hard strategy:

Rohit Sharma, Jadeja, Kohli

KL Rahul, Sundar, Hardik Pandya

Shami, Arshdeep, Kuldeep

 

They lack power-hitters: Hardik isn't at his best, KL Rahul doesn't have the strike-rate in ODIs, and Rohit Sharma can't hit sixes like he used to. The difference between his and Rinku's speed shows ICT's priorities. Shami has hopelessly gained weight, so I hope he can field well in the CT.

Selection is appaling. They have picked four spinners and 3 pacers one of them Shami while it should have been opposite. More chances of pacers getting injured and needing replacement than spinners. Only one of jaddu and axar was required.

Jaddu's selection is idiotic, hopefully the only reason of selecting him is to use him as a substitute fielder.

Pant hasn't been scintillating in the limited overs format, in ODis he is still good and was getting better before he met with that  accident, in t20is we don't need Pant.

I don't think who the captain is, matters much. He never deserved a spot in this team which is what he is insecure about.

yes Iyer should never have been picked but clearly they are picking him. If so atleast utilise his captaincy chops.

Samson was performing well in odis bt got dropped from the team because he failed in a few t20s(?). Format illiteracy is a problem with Indian team selections which is why Sky got picked for a test series when he had no business being picked. If it is true then the desire for Samson is based on souund logic. 

Anyways Samson is getting into the team because of RR PR, not domestic performances.

I have not seen Gill demonstrate any ability to read the game well, ofc we don't have any sample size for this either seeing from outside. Pandya would've been a better choice but he is very injury prone.

Gambhir has a toxic personality and ends up picking a fight in any environment he spends time in. Nothing has changed on that front. To see a manager throw  young players under the bus as he did with Pant and Sarfaraz is an instant sacking offence as far as I am concerned.  On top of this toxic persona, he had no coaching credentials whatsoever. If he had been successful with the Indian team it would have had to involve a fluke. As it stands, it seems a significant step backwards from Dravid.
