Yes but creating backups is. Cant use this as an excuse. We had no no. 4 going into WC 19 after dropping Rayudu. Tried KL and suddenly he was moved to opening with guys like Vijay Shankar/KKD etc tried at 4 without any prior experience. That is definition of messing up. In 23 WC, SKY was no way a replacement for Pandya. We dropped Venky Iyer too soon. He might not have been as good as HP but surely could have provided better balance than what SKY did. In 2023 they should've gone with someone like Rinku if they were looking for a batter down the order. Rinku has a List A average of 50 and has temperament and technique to bat as per situation. SKY is a one-trick pony and they went with him for Tests and ODIS As for 2019 WC, it was fully on Kohli and team management. Building a top order heavy team without a proper no. 4. Kept on backing Rayudu for 2 years and then dropped him just before the WC. He should've either gone with Rayudu or should've stopped that experiment an year ago and backed someone else. Plus went with 4 wkt keepers in playing XI Lord 1

Venky played a bunch of games when Pandya got injured and then dropped permanently. It didn't occur to them he can get injured again lol. Another imbalance was top 6 not bowling. 2019 atleast we had Jadhav but none in 2023 resulting in less batting depth.

Rinku if you're playing a specialist batter along with Shami or a specialist bowler. Venky Iyer as a 1:1 replacement for Pandya but in that case Shami replaces Siraj. Lord 1
R!TTER Posted March 16, 2025 Posted March 16, 2025 They should've gone with Kja, even in his last year of ODI back then he was avg over 45 although his S/R was down. The problem wasn't number 4 - it was number 3 the choke master & yes MS as well. Then dropping Shami because we had to play BK to lengthen the batting, in part due to old man phony, was just cherry on top

Choking is a batter getting out after 20-25 deliveries. KL rahul/Rohit threw it away. if any one choked, it was trio of pandya/pant/dhoni, needed one batter to score run a ball 50

rollingstoned Posted March 17, 2025 Posted March 17, 2025 Wc2019 the one who got done dirty was Rayudu. They played him in the MO for 4 yrs and then dropped him from the wc squad altogether. That weak ass MO at the time was completely self inflicted. Lord 1

It depends on the batter, if he can't negotiate swing/seam/spin or bounce then that's his problem

The ball landed on leg stump and swung back in. The decision was umpires call. I would have agreed if he failed to finish after getting a start. which is why dhoni/pandya/pant to be blamed because dhoni got 50 odd off 70+ balls with pant/pandya getting out in mid thirties.

Top order is supposed to play out such deliveries in swing conditions. There was no RR pressure. rollingstoned 1

Sehwag played across the line, same goes for Yuvraj, SRT got out fishing - any other day and all of them could've avoided those dismissals. None of those were unplayable balls as you're making them out to be! Says the person making excuses for BRat. You'll probably justify his last 8(9?) carbon copy dismissals in Oz as unplayable deliveries as well

It may also be the case that some opposition batsmen like Kane are much more technically solid than our batsmen like Kohli and Rohit to counter movement. Lord 1

Kohli played as a bowler that day but didn't bowl, now flip and blame the batsmen

No , they are getting out cheaply to other team's bowlers. Head is bradman against Indian bowlers in big matches but he gets out cheaply against other teams. Kane , I doubt he has even 50 against other big teams in other big odi matches. He sure has scored runs against Indian bowlers in big odi matches. He could score runs against Indian bowlers in 2021 test finals too where guess who could not pick any wickets in most helpful conditions.

They can't get top order out because others top order bat better. Its not as if bowlers spray the ball around

It is our genius bowlers who cannot do anything even in helpful conditions or unhelpful conditions. Edited March 17, 2025 by putrevus
