India Test Record in SENA since 2000

There is no doubt that performance in SENA is the ultimate benchmark for any Asian Test Team. We are miles ahead of any other Asian team but the below record still suggest that we haven't done anything great in last 25 years apart from "those two" series win vs Aus.

As we enter the next SENA cycle under a new captain, hoping we can fix our SENA record once for all.

One of the reasons, why I rate Pujara’s performance in Aus 2018 as game changing, giving it an extremely high weightage.

Pujara was exceptional in BGT 17-18. :hatsoff:

How can you say we haven't won anything apart from those "two" in SENA when there are literally other won series in there.

I'll put that 2007 series win in Eng over the 2018 Aus series in terms of opposition. 2018 Aus bowling was great but **** tier batting.

That 2007 England team was quiet decent, especially at home and had the likes of KP, Anderson etc.

2009 NZ was weak team I agree.

Draws in Aus in 03-04 and in SA in 10-11 were also good considering both had ATG batting lineups (and 10-11 SA had Steyn as well).

As far as overall SENA record, it will get better simply because India will get better as a team due to more money and infra (as it has since 2000). Aus, NZ and Eng are first world countries who are maxed out. SA has super slow economic growth.

The rise of small town players is a testament to that.

Plus we had won the Eng series in 2021022. We had won the 4 Test series 2-1 and the last Test was scheduled almost a year later. For all practical purposes it was a different one-off Test series as the Test was held at a different time (almost a year later), with different captain (Root was the captain in 2021), a different coach (McCullum had taken over in 2022), and with different teams! You can't combine the one-off match with the series.

Yes, there are two other series victories ( vs Eng in 2007 and vs NZ in 2009) apart from the two back to back series win vs Aus. But we are talking about a span of 25 years. Thats long enough. We have won just 4 series in these SENA countries in past 25 years. I find these results above average for a team like us. There are few drawn series as well which is fine acheivement but no better than SENA team performance in India. All SENA countries have won and drawn series against India in India in last 25 years as well.

SA won in 2000
Aus won in 2004
Eng won in 2012
NZ won in 2024

Its time we fix our SENA record in the next cycle and carve a new identity.

Thats true but officially its counted as a 5 match series. So, in the record book it would be written as such. But what opportunity missed by us- the series was there to be taken. England was meek and broken. But then covid and IPL.

04 Pak series was also good. Stronger team than 09 NZ and on par with 07 Eng I would say.

His gritty performance in 20-21 is no less impressive.

Both, esp. the first series win in Aus after 70+ years, are probably the two most memorable series.

More than Covid it was seniors and IPL who derailed the series. It was Rohit and Kohli who pushed for the last match to be pushed out coz they wanted to play IPL and wanted some rest before IPL started.
