India's ODI squad for Australia

 

INDIA ODI Team for 3 ODI's starting 19th October 2025.

 

Shubman Gill (capt), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vice-capt), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wk), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Yashasvi Jaiswal.

 

My comments Had I been a selector , I would not have done the following selections -

AXAR Patel- Bappu ji is a fair Spinner in Indian conditions, we have seen JADDU miserably failing in AUSTRALIA in all formats. Will he fair better as a bowler then Washington.  I may not agree . BCOS WASHIE turns genuinely , i have seen his balls turn and with his height , he gets some turn. he has a little edge over Axar on bouncy Australian tracks. as a batsmen with solid technique ( technique so good that he can even some times walk in at no 5 or no 6 )

In Australia , we may get to play only one Spinner and with washie , we may play kuldeep as a second Spinner. i don't think a third spinner is required when you have only 15 players to select. we should have picked gurnoor BRAR/khaleel as a fifth fast bowler as in ODI , you can have one or 2 pacers unfit and then we need a fast bowler. AXAR should have been replaced by GURNOOR/Yash Thakur/Khaleel.

My comments - pace attack looks one bowler short ....these are 5 t20 , if BOOM gets hurt then our pace attack looks very weak- arsh, harshit , nitish only.( ignoring dube)...we need one more fast bowler...

Ideally, yes. But it's been decided that VK and RGS will play in WC27.  Better to give them some match practice.  Maybe they will get bored / miss their families and decide it's enough :-).

Starc, Hazelwood and Zampa in ODIs - almost full strength except Cummins. One of Bartlett, Ellis or Dwarshius will play. 
 

Batting is full strength in ODIs. Nobody is missing. Labu dropped. Smith, Maxwell & Stoines retired.

Cummins had a lumbar stress reaction otherwise he too would've played 

 

Looks like Australia are preparing for 2027 seriously now. 

 

India have to be ruthless.  If Kohli and Rohit don't perform , their replacements have to be groomed.

Have you seen how Short bats in Australia?  We got lucky he was injured before CT Semi final.  Bro was in ominous touch.

 

Due to Washed up Ro Ko Australia have the edge..

 

Tullas like Maxwell and Stoinis were easy wickets compared to likes of Inglis Green or heck even Mitch Owen

India generally does well in T20s in Australia.  Our spinners enjoy those big boundaries.  Expecting Kuldeep and Varun to trouble them a lot in middle overs.

 

ODIs have always been a struggle for us in Australia.

It seems quite likely that Australia intentionally allowed India to win the 3rd ODI, and made a particular effort to let RoKo stand out. Bilateral series generally don’t carry much significance, and this third ODI felt especially inconsequential. If this leads India to continue relying on RoKo longer than they otherwise would, it could actually weaken India as a competitor, which might benefit Australia in multi-nation tournaments.
