Gollum Posted October 28, 2025 Posted October 28, 2025 (edited) Wonder if being outsiders in Mumbai cricket harms the likes of Jaiswal and Sarfaraz (both originally from UP heartland). They aren't Marathi manoos (never seen them conversing in Marathi either), so maybe rubs Agarkar the wrong way. Even Rahane seems to have a problem with these guys (personally don't think Jaiswal lacks discipline or work ethic), and you don't see Gavaskar, Manjrekar hype up Jaiswal inspite of him carrying forth the baton of Mumbai batsmanship. Prithvi Shaw also from Bihar, but his downfall is mostly self inflicted. SKY has roots in UP, but was born and brought up in Mumbai (his father was a scientist at BARC), also speaks fluent Marathi. Please play Jaiswal. Even if at number 4, fine, he needs games under his belt and to adapt to the ODI tempo. He should play all the ODIs in lead up to 27 WC, even if he has initial teething troubles. At the end of the day, quality will shine through. Or play Tilak/Rinku in the middle order. Basically someone deserving. I would hate for them to play Jaiswal in the middle order for a couple of ODIs and if he fails coz he hasn't played in middle order, he is scapegoated. I would rather someone like Tilak or Rinku get that spot at 4 or 5. Gollum 1

sage Posted November 1, 2025 Author Posted November 1, 2025 “They are not going anywhere” - Top BCCI official confirms Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 https://khelnow.com/cricket/dhuma-rohit-sharma-virat-kohli-future-202511 The Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal has made a bold statement about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future in ODI cricket, stating that the duo are expected to play in ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. Ever since both batting legends announced their surprise retirement from test cricket earlier this year, fans have been concerned about whether they will be part of the next ODI World Cup, scheduled to be played in October and November 2027. “Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have given their life to Indian cricket. When it comes to Team India, they will want to give it their best. And that is the true reflection of a sportsman. And my best wishes to both of them. They have done wonderful. They are not going anywhere, they are here to stay,” he said. “The way Rohit Sharma has shown his class in this ODI series against Australia, at that age, coming as player of the match in the final match and then player of the series Award, that shows the kind of conviction that he carry, the kind of hard work that he put in, it’s truly remarkable,” he added.

Probably not as bad as it once was, but language chauvinism is alive and well across India. Angrez, Angrezi chhod gaaye and that continues to serve us as a useful bridging language with the rest of the world and even within the country. Edited December 25, 2025 by Throwaib_Chuckter

Feel for Jaiswal. Has done everything right, did the hard yards and has also performed at the highest level and is the best all-format batter we have. But he's still not part of the inner core and looks like never will be. Same with Rinku. Had Rinku been from Mumbai with a name like Rinku Sarwekar instead of Rinku Singh or played for MI, he would've played all three formats. And despite being the top two batters in T20Is, both Jaiswal and Rinku have been dropped when in any other country they would be the first two names on the team sheet. Rinku has better List A performances than almost everyone and better FC record than Patidar, Sai etc. but he'll never get the chance coz he doesn't belong. UP and MP don't have a powerful lobby and likes of Jaiswal and Rinku will always pay the price. You either need to play for powerful lobbies such as Delhi, Punjab, Haryana from the North or Mumbai, Gujarat from West or Karnataka, TN, Hyderabad from South or Bengal from East. Or you play for IPL teams such as MI, CSK or RCB. If you don't have backing of one of these powerful lobbies, you'll be sidelined. Even Samson needed lobbying from Mallu lobby and non-stop vocal support from Shashi Tharoor to get in. Unfortunately Jaiswal and Rinku doesn't have any of it. No powerful lobby, no rabid fanbase or a powerful politician taking up their case. Likes of Patidar and KS Bharath can get chances in Tests but Rinku can't, and Gill can just walk into the T20 team and be made a VC with an average of 26 and a SR of 138 but both Rinku and Jaiswal with averages of 43 and 36 with SR of 160+ and they struggle to even get into the squad! Take a look at Rinku's stats and how he isn't an all-format batter alongside Jaiswal is mind-boggling! https://www.espncricinfo.com/cricketers/rinku-singh-723105 Edited December 25, 2025 by Ultimate_Game Gollum 1

But this is how it is. If you are a ranji batter no coming from top 5-6 centres your records are seen as you have not scored any runs , players with only top 5-6 centres are given a chance in test batting line up and only they are given an bigger rope or even a chance to make a comeback. Jaiswal is just caught in between the transition and TM and selectors are made promises that they can not keep. The idea was that Kolhi and Rohit will retire from White-ball and concentrate in red-ball cricket but they chose Odis for various reasons. Jaiswal name always pop-up in media from v.starting, he made to Ind team when he was 21 -22 yo whatelse ..... It is similar situation when Sachin was not retiring some1, it would have costed some1, majumdar, Faiz, Paras etc... are much more hard done , no one talks about Ankit bhawne. Top 4 in Odi team are locked for right reason for now , where do you slot in Rinku ??? Where to slot in Jaiswal .???? There is too much congestion at top order some1 will be hard done, again its the difference of margins ..... Where to slot in Jaiswal in T20is ????? Where to slot in Rinku in t20 ??? PPl suggests him as a finisher he can nt be a finisher vs decent t20 bowling side Yes in tests rather experimenting with bits and pieces players proper batters and bowlers should be tried be it bawne, rinku, Yash rathod. Ind keeps playing KL, Sai, Sundar, Reddy are they even the best players in their ranji sides ???? Players who are not best in their ranji sides forget about Ind ranji system are making into Ind test 11 Edited December 25, 2025 by tapandrun

Players who are not best in their ranji sides forget about Ind ranji system are making into Ind test 11 Jaiswal and someone like Rinku should be a no-brainer across formats. You slot your top performers in and then build team around them. How did someone like Patidar get a chance before Rinku? How come Sai is getting such a long run in Tests (he's a better LOI batter) and not Rinku who's averaging near 60 in FC? You've to pick mentally strong players and back them but we seem to be going towards mentally weaker bunch such as KL, Gill, SKY etc. How someone still believes these three can show up at the crunch is beyond me! Why not try likes of Rinku and Jaiswal instead of these? KL should've been sacked from LOIs after WC 2023 debacle, SKY should've been kicked out after the last WT20 where his main contribution was in taking that Miller catch and was a no=show in the final as usual. As for Gill, his best innings across formats remains the Gabba knock of 93 in 2020-21 which is 5 years ago! He scores cheap bilateral runs and goes missing as usual when needed and we've plenty of data points. Try out Jaiswal and Rinku as they seem to be mentally tougher. At least give them a chance to fail. They deserve selection based on their performances but we keep on going with TTFs. If you look at the team the folks who show up when chips are down are Pandya and Axar and they've been the reason India won the last two ICC titles. Tilak is a nice addition as he has shown he doesn't shy from tough situations. Rinku is like him in that respect from whatever we've seen so give him a shot. Instead of TTFs at least try them out.

Can only say which player is clutch or big game player when they perform or not perform in a clutch situation or a big game. Yes rinku and jaiswal seems to be 2 batters who could be suited for all formats, but its not like there are other batter with same ability, its just Ind top 4 in white-ball is locked so jaiwal does not make it there and Ind top5 is also locked in Odis, there are spots in Tests where rinku should be given chances. Not making case for Gill or any1 else but their domestic records are also v.good. Think KL should not be in tests but ppl get carried away with 1 innings here and there saying he ie best batter in such and such conditions.... But KL has created his own niche in Odi cricket he has avg of 50 and sr of 90 at #5 and he keeps wkts too. What Ind needs is a proper finisher in white-ball. Kl having able to hold on to his spot in ind intnl sides after 2 big icc wc games and botching ipl team is unheard of. The issue is ind players are v.specific to playing certain slots and do not have any secondary skill-set. Yes all the critisim on sky is valid and he has been out of form form 1 yr now, but at one time he as no.1 t20i batter , he has 4 t20i tons playing in mo 1 at #3 and 3 at #4 , this is unusual for a mo batter, lthink only maxwell can top that , plus 3 of his tons are in eng, SA, NZ
