Gill is a misfit in T20s

Gill has single-handedly brought the T20 team down. This team was looking so good and such an exciting team when he wasn't around. But now 3 players are playing out of position to get him in - he himself (not a T20 player), Samson who's pushed to no. 3 and Tilak who has been moved from his preferred no. 3 spot where he had so much success.

 

If we had to bring in a batter, Jaiswal was the batter to do so. Gill is a misfit in T20s and it shows. Or if you don't want to play Jaiswal, get Samson back and add someone like Parag or Rinku down the order. In fact I wouldn't mind someone like Priyansh Arya as well at the top in place of panauti Gill who isn't gonna do much in a big match anyway.  Playing Gill is like playing a slightly different version of KL Rahul - similar performances and results and brings the team down right from the start.

Players like jadhav murali vijay Yusuf doesn't get regular chance in t20 team pandey gets Lot's of opportunity

Gill is a bigger problem as he sets the tone. Panday used to come in lower down the order when the match was done for the most part. But Gill is influencing the match at the start.

The biggest problem is he's putting extra pressure on Abhishek. If Abhishek has an off day or runs into bad form, we're done as we don't have anyone who can take the attacking mantle from him. Jaiswal could do that and share the load but apparently an average of 36 with a SR of 165 isn't good enough.

 

This falls squarely on selectors.

Yup. He's a minnow basher and pad his stats in meaningless bilaterals and go missing at the crunch. We're keeping likes of Jaiswal, Parag, Rinku out of the team due to him. And if we play Jaiswal I would rather go for another wk instead of Samson. Samson is useless if he's not opening and I would rather have Jitesh lower down the order. At least he can give you 20 off 12 balls. Samson is a sitting duck in the middle order.

We'll see more of it. And just wait if Abhishek fails or runs into a bad patch, which is bound to happen due to his batting style and due to him covering for Gill, and he would be the one kicked out from the team and not Gill.

 

All the hope I had for the T20 is now gone coz we've regressed massively with the addition of Gill. Aus, Eng and SA are better than us due to that single bone-headed decision to fit in Gill across all the formats. In fact I'll even take Sai ahead of Gill.

When you've "panauti" Gill, "useless" Samson and "I only score behind the wkt" SKY in the top 4, we're more than phucked against better bowling attacks. None of these 3 deserve a spot in the team.

KL Rahul is twice the player Gill can ever be, in T20 cricket. The kind of batting he displayed in 2016-19 is beyond Gill's aukaat. 

 

And there are 10 better options than KL when it comes to that opening slot, now imagine what a big nalla this Gill is.

Hazlewood won't take part in rest of the series, he is going to play Shield cricket to prepare for the Ashes.

 

Watch Gill score a few 50s and PR will be out in full force demanding he be made all format captain asap.

Gill is the poorer version of KL. None of the strokeplay which KL had during his peak years but the same mental midgetness. I don't expect Gill to show up in a big match and better to cut our losses and bring in Jaiswal.

Ultimately this decision by BCCI, Agarkar, GG will only lead to another humiliation in a home WC. We were looking so good against RSA and Eng last season, now even Pawks and Toygers will fancy their chances against us, we are back to mid 2010s style T20 batting, how long can you rely on Abhi?

 

Jaiswal was in the '24 T20 WC squad of 15. What happened so drastically that he can't even be part of the squad after Ro-Ko retirements? And Gill is made VC from nowhere. In IPL, Sai Sudarshan makes Gill look like a tortoise, Gill is one of the most impactless, selfish statpadding top order batsmen in today's IPL despite his home ground being a patta.

Even KL played some clutch knocks in this CT. Gill, in his best format, flopped even there, in fact Gill is the biggest bottler I can think of in ICC KOs.

Even in the Asia Cup the last match was close thanks to this misfit batting lineup. If Abhishek fails none of the others can take over. If we had Jaiswal at the top with Tilak at 3, we would've such a solid top order. Now we're struggling coz useless Gill puts the team on the backfoot and is followed by out of place Samson and another has been SKY.

Gill has played 2 WTC finals, 1 ODI WC, 1 CT, 2 Asia Cups. 8 ICC KOs, 4 ACC KOs, succeeded once. 

 

Jaiswal is yet to play an ICC or ACC KO for us, heck he has never played any tournament for us. 

 

Nobody from rest of the world will believe this. 

 

The way things are going, Jaiswal will play his 1st WC when he turns 30.....Sachin, Kohli played their 1st WCs when they were 18, 22.
