Rana has picked 16 wickets in 8 matches at less than 21. You can't ask more from someone who has just started playing the format. 

 

Shami in his last 8 matches averages 32 with the ball. 

 

Why should Rana be dropped for Shami?

Tests happening in India, so no third pacer. Nitish can bowl a few if he is playing..

Akashdeep is back up if Bumrah doesn't play.

 

Spinners will be Jaddu, Washi and one of Kuldeep/Axar.

Sai or Jurel . I am okay with either of them. Definitely DDP

Against Jammu & Kashmir

1st innings - 42

2nd innings - 32

 

Against Chhattisgarh

1st innings - 1

2nd innings - DNB

 

Against Rajasthan

1st innings -  15

2nd innings - 19*

 

Next match against Himachal Pradesh at BKC. It is a very small ground. Hopefully he will look to find form there. Hasn't played a good innings since recovering from injury. 

 

Mumbai played some ordinary teams against which many Mumbai players have scored. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 67 and 156 in the match against Rajasthan. Has been Ajinkya Rahane scored a ton  Siddhesh Lad the experienced middle order bat too scored a ton. Shams Mulani whose main skill is spin bowling but is a handy bat has scored more than specialist batsman Sarfaraz.

 

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Siddhesh Lad, Shams Mulani, Ajinkya Rahane, Musheer khan and Akash Anand have scored more than Sarfaraz.  His form post injury recovery is so bad that he is the 7th highest run scorer in Mumbai team itself. Even a bowling all rounder has scored more than him this season. If we consider top rubs scores this Ranji season from all teams, I wonder what his ranking would be in that list. He missed getting back in form even against J&K and Chhatisgarh of all teams. Some has beens and all rounder cashed in.

 

He stilll has 4 matches left (iirc HP, Puducherry, Hyderabad and Delhi) to have a giod Ranji season. So all is not lost yet.

 

It is good that we have him playing in Ranji for remaining 4 matches. I hope he has a good sesson this Ranji Trophy and then forces a way in test squad of for the next series. Even Mumbai needs him to be in form because you dont know when the other 6 players scoring more runs than him lose form and runs are needed from others who are not contributing now. He is 28 so he would be looking to have a good Ranji season this year itself. Even Mumbai needs his form in matches against  2 better teams which will come up soon.

I think Nitish Reddy could have been replaced by someone else. Reddy is not even bowling. Also not sold on Padikkal and Sai... They have not impressed in the chances they got. Even though I supported Sai for No.3 as he is younger, I really want to see better skill+ mental toughness combo. 

 

Sarfaraz was discarded too fast. In India he is a good option to have.

I prefer Jurel over Reddy in that 6-8 slot as Reddy does not bowl. 3 Spinners + 2 fast bowlers are enough. 

 

Hope Kuldeep plays. But who knows Gambo may just stick with Reddy and Axar. Get Jurel and Kuldeep out.
