Rutu and Iyer can produce big overs. When they pick a side they have to see various attributes of a player. KL has played quite a few stunning LOI innings and Gill yoo. He thrashed 3 sixers in an over to get to his ODI double hundred, and had a 60 average at one point, now if is 55-56 I think. This century apart, Ruturaj has often looked out of place in international cricket. His first series was in SL and a disaster. Till then I was a supporter but lost hope seeing him play. He looked out of sorts in a few more LOIs as well. At present, he is much more experienced, has the confidence of multiple IPL seasons behind him and MAY be a serviceable option for ODIs, but is nowhere in the ballpark of Rohit nor are Gill and KL inferior to him.

wanted_desi Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 Iyer > Tukraj. There is nothing special about him, what he does: there are 10 who can do samething. We need to bring Tilak/Abhishek type of players into the set up. Who has more potential and can serve the side down the line.

He is a tuk tuker even in T20 if he plays in the middle order. He doesn't have the skills to put the ball in gaps. Only if he bats at 3 he can express himself. Tilak varma has a staggering 65% of dot balls in ODIs and 32% of dot balls in T20Is. Edited December 6, 2025 by vvvslaxman Manucrick 1

Pushing in gaps and getting risk free 4s are major part of odis Samson has issue where he mis-hits alot, that why he only has 3 tons in list A, Thats the reason there is no point of putting him mo in t20is as well. Open with him t20is so that mishits crosses the inner circle. he has that cushion of pp restrictions Edited December 6, 2025 by tapandrun

The two centurions had SR of 104 and 126 When you play that many balls, you need to have better SR. Tilak will bring a lefty in the lineup plus more hitting range.

There was nothing worng with those tons, even in current context 90-110 ball odi tons are good. The issue was 24-27 balls jaddu and sundar played need player with power game where these 2 are playing they do not have that game. Rutu got ton in sub 85 balls. Getting a Odi ton in sub 75 balls still is not that common. Look at the brevis played 54 run innings with 34 balls , 30 runs in 15 balls by bosh these are the innings you need around 90-110 ball tons. If some1 plays high risk in Odis they can not ensure a ton . So need accumulators in odis to ensure 330 score which is must in current day odis. but need powerful finishers. Even markran took 98 balls for 110 In odis Need batter who can score at high sr without taking much risks like the end team was doing in around 2017-2020 time. Gill is similar too. How many do we need? In current era of super pattas if batsman is powerful there is little risk required in batting at 100-120 SR. SA won because of Brevis-Breetzke partnership which added nearly 90 runs in 10 overs. A batsman should have multiple gears, play risk free in tough conditions surely but express yourself in easier ones tapandrun 1

Ind does not have high content of t20 batters in Odi team so there is an issue pointed this out when they(bcci) made it clear that both rohit and kolhi will be part of Odi wc team, plus they are playing with jadeja and Sundar at finisher's place which they are not capable off. but sajnu and tilak are not the solution. sanju's list A stat is nt promising he mis-hits alot even at Smat level he mis-hits. Tilak what ever I have seen of him it was like the gets stuck, even the emerging asia cup before the SA tour he got stuck vs pak. This aisa cup too he was not able to hit risk free 4s. Ind tm and selectors have already made their minds that GIll is captain , Virath and Rohit are playing , Iyer is Vc ,Kl is the wk so these 4+1 spots are already taken, now you are left with 2 slots. Out of which if 1 goes to hardik (if he stays fit during wc),now Ind has 1 spots , think Axar is a contender. Now the only thing you can do is to look for a powerful hitter. More or less Ind playing 11 fr wc:: 1. Gill 2. Rohit 3.Kolhi 4.Iyer 5.KL 6.Axar //// Do you want him in SA ???--- but he has shown he can bat under pressure in big games 7.Pandaya 8.*** this is the only spot 9.Pacer3/kuldeep 10.Pace2 11.Bhumrah Apart from axar no ones place is debatable , that too because its wc is in SA. Playing as a finisher/last few overs tilak has got stuck for mi too thats why they got Dhir to play as finisher Edited December 6, 2025 by tapandrun

I mentioned Samson because I just don't trust KL under pressure. Finishers can be guys like Parag,Dube, Rinku Would need a decent no.8 with Axar at 7

Have no issue with 30 yo+ player but they should be able to slot into playing 11 right away in test and odi sides. As t20i wc is just 2 years cycle and lot changes in t20s in no time then play who ever is in good form regardless of age. Yes Ind will need back-up for kolhi, kl and rohit, Pandaya after this Odi wc. For this odi wc they can look into Arsahd khad (mp) LA fast bowler he can tonk few last overs, is a LH batter. bowls at lively pace ~140 kmph Parag is good option in Odis. may be look in to some more options , in other thread posted about Dhir, venky iyer, they play in mo for their domestic sides and have some kind of power game (not saying fully developed) are tall. Having played in mo they know how to construct an innings which is still needed for an odi finisher. its not like t20i where getting 15 balls to play is like your top order just didnt do anything. Most of the time his team mates had to make up for strike rate. SOme new guys or Nitish Reddy. He was too slow like Rahane. He has not evolved in this format. Quiet some distance to go. GUys like Prabhsimran, Abhishek wreaked havoc. On that track he made 28 in 42. His other team members scored at high rate. 0(3) Nagaland 0(2) vs Mumbai 57(81) vs Saurashtra 6(7) vs Puducherry 99(106) vs Karnataka 28(42) vs Punjab chasing a target of 426/4

Playing at low risk yet finding boundary. tilak broadly has 3 modes:: 1.keep hitting <-- SA t20s, Eng t20 2.Getting Stuck <-- happened to him alot. 3.Getting Stuck but not giving away the wkt , which is extension of mode 2 <-- innings he played vs Pak in finals, he plays this for MI too it looks good when other batter around him keeps getting out but he holds on but looks bad when others are hitting and he is stuck <<-- where he got to retire-out.

Just tells the standard of this tourney White ball selection is done based on IPL even ODIs.
