Does he deserve a place in the odi setup? He has a not-inconsiderable body of work in domestic cricket, is CSK captain and perhaps the right age. He has some weaknesses against moving ball but seems to have good scoring options against spin.

He deserves.  We should back him as he earned it. Similarly in Tests domestic players should be rewarded.

Seriously though, for the 2027 ODI WC, he should be in the running. Who knows how healthy Iyer will be? So, he could be the one to handle middle-over spinners. Giving him a good run now cannot be a bad thing.

He has starting troubles. Once he goes past that he will get more and more dominating as the innings goes on. Even though he was in the 90s approaching his first ever 100 he didn't waste time like Kohli was doing.

Good play against spin and pace. Can play anywhere in the top 4? Honestly, he should be in contention ahead of Jaiswal.

 

1-4. : Top order batsmen -   Rohit, Gill, Kohli, Iyer are a lock for top 4.  (Back up : Ruturaj can be the backup in the squad for any of them)

5 :      Keeper                    -  KL is locked as keeper. Don't think they'll change it (Back up : Unclear. One of Samson/Jurel)

6-7 : Batting all rounders - Pandya, Axar (back up : Unclear. Not Washi for sure. Probably Parag)

8 :     Bowling all rounder - Rana?

9 :     Spinner                    - Kuldeep

10-11: Pacers                     - Bumrah, Siraj  (back up : Arshdeep)

 

That's what our squad looks like.

 

Clarity needed on:

1. Who is the backup keeper?

2. When are they planning to boot out Jadeja and get Axar in?

3. Who is the back up at 6-7? If it is Parag, then he should get some game time.

4. Is Rana a lock?

5. Is Kuldeep a lock? Or should Varun get a look in?

Indian bowlers are silent enemies because  they are pathetic fielders invariably. Batting is non existent.  India needs 7 batsmen including pandya.  Jadeja cannot be part of the 7.

He has a top gear that can match Rohit sharma. Kela  and Gill rcan never produce a 25 run over. Rutu and Iyer can produce big overs. When they pick a side they have to  see various attributes of a player.

He has scored 7 sixes in one over. He has better top gear than Gill/Kohli. You could see how he accelerated through the overs.

We have too many o similar type of  players in the same squad/ X1

 

Rutu, Gill- There is a place for only 1 of these 2

 

Pant, Rahul, Samson, Kishen- there is a room for only 1 of these 4 to give team more depth. They all might have different strengths and weaknesses but overall don’t need 2 of these in the same X1.

 

Axar,  Jadeja, Sundar- Again there is a place for only 1 of these 3 in the X1 (in the squad 2/3 max).
