Similar kind of thing happened in Texas last month. Kids camping in flood-prone areas, camp-organizers knew this, there was a common warning because this had happened a few decades ago, yet it was more important to these people to "toughen the kids" in a camp - its a "tradition" you see.

 

Result? Multiple kids got washed away due to someone's hubris and neglect.

 

I realize this is a thread about India, but such things are not unique to India.

National calamity can happen anywhere, but some countries learn better than others. So that it is not repeated.

 

In India such things are frequent unfortunately

Landslides and cloud bursts happen every year in Uttarakhand, Himachal, Arunachal. The area is not suitable  for full fledged urban development with roads, tunnels, railways , resorts etc. people build close to rivers and every time there is a flash flood people are swept away. Even with warnings people lives are lost. Definitely the town planning can be improved

Yeah but Trump cut the early warning system and removed employees from FEMA, otherwise they already had a system in place for early warning as well as quick action. America is going backwards in many things.

All this garbage is from the slums which are just beside the tracks.
Right from Delhi Sarai Rohilla station till Delhi Cantt, the tracks are surrounded by slums, with no basic access to sanitation. Not sure what Khujliwal did despite being in power for 10+ years. The slums are exactly intact the way they were in 2013.

BJP if it does the demolition drive, the same political parties will start howling like wolves everywhere on the media.

No doubt. Although he was forced to roll back FEMA cuts after all these recent disasters.

 

This particular camp (Mystic) has a history with flood-related deaths (https://abcnews.go.com/US/history-flash-flood-alley-hilly-region-texas-prone/story?id=123531672). 

Their camp was flooded in 1978, 1987 (campers died that year) etc. 

 

Shouldn't that be enough warning to not hold a camp for children in an area called "Flash Flood Alley"?  They, of course, do it in the name of "tradition." To make matters worse, this year, there are some indications that they waited an hour after receiving a warning to evacuate. 

 

People are endangered due to negligence/corruption or due to stubborn people making stupid decisions. In all parts of the world.

Our roads were like US in 2024 and will be more like US by 2028 as per toll ethanol minister
