Ultimate_Game Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I'm really confused coz whenever I've seen Kartik Sharma bat he looks like a poorer version of Rahane or Tukraj, and they themselves aren't good T20 players. He can't score quickly, can't be the main batter who carries the team, can't even play a cameo like Urvil and yet has been backed. I don't even see any potential in him. Maybe for Tests but other than that he's a misfit. This is one of the main reasons CSK has struggled this season as other than Samson and Urvil they don't have any modern T20 batters, and Urvil himself isn't established yet. If they fail, CSK isn't gonna post 160+. velu and crictime 2
cricspirit Posted May 10 Posted May 10 (edited) Brevis has sucked more.. Done nothing. But agree.. was saying in the match thread..he does not show intent like other youngsters and bats like this is an ODI. Just too slow for no reason. Edited May 10 by cricspirit
tapandrun Posted May 10 Posted May 10 (edited) from the ipl innings, he is not a hitter of any kind of bowling unless its loopy spin. Its okay if some1 in 1st season nt able to put bat to ball but atleast try hitting the ball , bt he is just playing run a ball or even below run a ball innings and waiting for match to be finished by the other batting partner. This game showed how bad this is, brevis did not score quickly and karthik waited for him to hit and the pressure kept mounting and a game that could have be up by 17-18th over took csk to 20th over needing 10 run. Do not think he has white-ball game. His ipl sr is below 125 . Edited May 10 by tapandrun Ultimate_Game, Suhaan, crictime and 1 other 4

Yes he's just another yesteryear type T20 cricketer, who does not take initiative in heavy lifting like other newcomers have shown Tries to be too stylish without being actually Ultimate_Game 1

If I'm the opponent I would try not to dismiss him coz all he does is eat up balls and score at a SR of 110-120. I feel for other batters who have to score at a SR of 160+ and here we have Kartik playing Tests in T20s. tapandrun 1
vvvslaxman Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Teams that suffer from "high price tag" syndrome 1) CSK 2) KKR They play these guys just because they paid them a lot.

LSG should be there as well with Pant clocking in at 27 cr But shocked to see CSK throwing 14.5 cr at 2 untested youngsters whom they should've been able to get for under 1 cr based on their performances.

Worrying part though is in order to extend the contract these high price tag players play very slowly. In Kartik's case he literlaly plays to protect himself from releasing him next season.

Sarfaraz could play the same way and score 50 every match and here Kartik is being rewarded for not being a team player. Never saw a youngster being so selfish. Normally it's the established stars who play like this. bowl_out and BacktoCricaddict 1 1

SO they keep promoting him ahead of established international player like Brevis who has hit 55 sixes in the last 12 months at international level. Ultimate_Game and tapandrun 2
crictime Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Kartik and Prashant Veer do not look like good auction buys. Ultimate_Game 1

IMO CSK thought of Kartik and Veer to play similar roles that Rayudu and Jadeja used to play. So far Kartik hasn't shown he can do so and seems very limited. Regarding Veer I blame the CSK management as they haven't given him opportunities. Give him a chance to bowl and also send him in to bat as he seemed to be comfortable against spin. For me Kartik is a disappointment and Veer needs to be given more chances to make a call. But I agree they're definitely not worth 14.5 cr and they should've had them for under 1 cr. crictime 1

Kavya finally gave one bump. Fleming and co like fools completed this disasterous buy. Nobody builds a team for future. That means you have given up this season. Ultimate_Game 1

They saw Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav and just hoped that some random young picks will perform the same way. They didn't realize that they had already got such players in Mhatre and Urvil, and needlessly went and splurged. Those two guys became millionaires overnight, that's fine.. But Fleming should stop ruining the team composition just because he made some poor decisions. vvvslaxman 1

We're seeing so many exciting young batters and CSK (and MI) have picked the absolute worst of the lot and paid them way too much. Very unlike the CSK of old.

MI started the bid for Karthik sharma at 30 Lakhs. exited at 40 Lakhs Then LSG and KKR went up to 2.80 rores. That is where CSK enters did not stop right till the end. KKR must be feeling very lucky they went upto 12.80 crores. SRH and CSK fought at the end. Same way CSK and SRH went for Prashant veer. CSK entered at 1.30 crores and did not stop Urvil and AYush retained for 30 lakhs lol Poor guys should have released himself and moved else where.
