Sarfraz with his bat hanging outside the off can be equally vulnerable as he is not used to playing new ball much. Jadeja for all his solid batting style can be vulnerable when he faces brand new cherry at no.3. India has iterated so many guys in recent times at no.3. Last 5 years number of guys we have tried at no.3 I think shaik rasheed would be best suited to number 3 however he too must be played in lower middle order till he finds his footing in international cricket. Till then sai is best #3 we have got

govinda Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Sri lanka have announced squad for first test. No nissanka or kusal mendis. Dickwella returns
vvvslaxman Posted August 12 Posted August 12 There is a wild experiment they have not tried yet. Pant at no.3 I have harly seen him dangling the bat edging to slips. He is very decisive when he decides to defend. But keeping for so many overs and batting at 3 is an exhausting task unless they want to try Jurel as keeper.

AKane Posted August 12 Posted August 12 The two players with the rabid fan following in India, Bumrah and "you know who", are not playing this series or not in test team. Does the test series then matter?
vvvslaxman Posted August 12 Posted August 12 India has done some unthinkable things in recent times like series of whitewashes. Lot of "firsts" or "first in a long time" under this TM. Here is another "first" beckoning. Without Bumrah too.

Play DDP at 3 and Sarfaraz at 6 Edited August 12 by bowl_out

That would create a hole at 5. Let Pant stay at 5, and explore who can fill in at 3. I'd be curious to see what Sarfaraz can do at 6. Slow, low pitches in SL are tailor made for him. TM should be sensible enough to play him and hope he comes good

Nikhil_cric Posted August 13 Posted August 13 https://www.cricinfo.com/story/slower-slightly-fuller-how-spinners-have-succeeded-in-sri-lanka-1549766 Excellent work from Monga. Slow, fullish spin works in SL. Ashwin bowled it as slow as 74 kph back in the 2015 series. tweaker 1
