A classy guy with true leadership qualities. The 20020-21 series was the best ever, with the Gabba win being the highlight. Also, he has the match winning century at Lords, and the series deciding Dharmshala test win against the Aussies among his career highlights. His batting numbers look sub par but he is a crucial part of the biggest wins of his team. Hope he continues in a different role in cricket to make more meaningful contributions!

Was it after this century that Jadeja ran him out? Instead of fuming at him, Rahane calmly told him not to worry about it and carry on. Any other batsman would have fumed and cussed at Jadeja. Rahane is a class act.

FYI Kohli was on his way to scoring 100 before Rahane ran him out for 72 in test.Who knows how that first would have ended if he did not run Kohli out.

 

and it would be easy to say if  Bumrah played Gabba test, India would have lost that series.

Yes. His gesture suggested "I thappens" after that run out instead of "It always happens with you" .

Also at the Gabba his batting suggestd he went after the target as he danced down to Lyon and whacked him for six. It was a brief stay. But they gave a very positive vibe right through. Even Sundar was aggressive. Didn't erally focus on riling up opposition by yelling and jumping. He just focused on traps especially those leg side traps and rotation of bowling.

Looking at Vijaya shankar, Ashwin, DK participation in other leagues i expect Rahane to play in other leagues if he quits IPL as well. I think it is a wise call if he goes that route. He may not have that long a career from here on. He can play in other leagues like MLC, 100, SA20 etc.

to negate yours , Kohli was the captain when India won for the first time in Australia and has most away test wins by any Indian captain.

 

India won series after losing first test under Kohli before.So chances are......

Good point. But man, the team was in a shambles after being humiliated for 36 a.o. under his captaincy, and miraculously recovered under Rahane's captaincy with a progressively weaker team full of untested youngsters - very hard to shake that.

 

We'll never know, but AMR and RJS provided the team a relaxed, supportive environment that VK may or may not have. Will never take that away from AMR, just like one should never take the previous series win away from VK.

Yea.. Ashwin is already very old. DK may not have same reflexes. VJ sucked even when he was young.  Uthappa was okay in ILT20 i think. Guys like Manish pandey should consider this option.

INia would have been comprehensively thrashed. India won test series in 2018 thanks to prsence of Pujara and absence of SMith/Warner/Bancroft who were serving bans.

Imagine Australia losing two guys one ade almost 800 runs and another guy who made almost 500 runs in the 2014 series. That was a major blow. ONly their bowling was good which was handled very well by Pujara and Pant.

I am not trying to take away any credit from Rahane.He did great but Shastri needs to get equal or more credit.

 

Shastri to me in the best Indian coach.He and Kohli made Indian team compete in every condition. Kohli is the best Indian test captain, he understood fast bowling and no wonder Ishant,Shami,Umesh and Bhuvi all became very good under his captaincy

 

FYI if Kohli was there India  would have done just fine, India lost first test in Pune against Aussies in 2017 and were shot out for 189 batting first , Kohli's captaincy during Aussies first innings was one of the best captaincy I have seen by any Indian captain.

He had a lot of concentration issues in between breaks right through his career. Can't count the number of times he got out after a break when he was in absolute control. A flawed Mumbaikar who were not known for long batting style. IN hsi entire career only once he batted beyond 250 balls.That was during his 188 at Pune. 

 

Since 2010 those who batted 250 balls or more in an innings.
