Ishan sanju much better option than pant but team management will take Kela to wc

Quoting verbatim, will be glad to be proven wrong but KL is India's best test batsman right now

Pant is not as good as Sehwag though in ODIs. Sehwag beign an opener has provided fast starts enough time. Difference is Sehwg is a 4 hitter not a 6 hitter. Also he doesn't play funky shots. All his shot executions are exactly the same across the formats. Just that field set is different. Especially third man . Infact they started having ODI field for Sehwg in tests to counter his stroke play.

And it's all in the mind for Pant. He's got the talent to buckle down and play as per the situation. He doesn't do that in LOI.

Not the biggest singles taker. That is why he struggles in shorter formats. Sehwag for all his boundary hitting was never shy of tip and run singles. Just that he was a reckless casual runner. But he always looked for quick singles.

To be frank  KL Rahul is the last person I'd count on when the pressure is on in a knockout match

Sure. I'll agree. But kela is the guy who gets us to that knock out match

Pant is way too unfit to be taking up a spot in the white-ball XI his conditioning is a absolute liability in limited  overs cricket.

Nothing to do with his fitness as well. He's just not a limited overs player

KL's only reliable spot is at the top of the order  Hiding him at 5 or 6 in a must win match is a recipe for disaster when those slots demand high strike  rate finishing

And sehwag understood the fact that spinners feel more frustrated when you milk them for singles. Pant never quite understood that. Just because you can back yourself to hit every off spinner for boundaries doesn't mean you have to

Sehwag had rubber like hands and uses it to manipulate field sets , find gaps. Very fluid regardless of format. Can't remember one instance where he is found stuck on the crease without doing much. Either he would get out or score quickly.

Younger Rishabh Pant was definitely leaner and sharper  which is exactly why those early IPL seasons were his absolute prime in terms of explosiveness.

Both heavy bottom hand players. Pant and sehwag. Sehwag got the tough love , pant didn't.

Rishab is not a white-ball batter. The only place he can bat is opening slot thats not because he is a good opener but he as so many limitation and he can only score when field is up and his mishits clears inner circle.

Everytime he out scores other batters in test, there is a surge on the suggestion to add him to white-ball cricket. He never had issue with test run scoring since that Aus test series.

His defensive and sudden attack methodology works well in test , which does not work in white-ball.

Here are his limitations ::

No off-side game

Can not rotate strike

Can not hit 4/6 without taking risks

Mishits in test goes for 4/6 because the fielding set-up is attacking in test more fielder near the bat or in the circle hardly anyone controllling the boundaries

He just gets stuck

Every possible odi player be it if they are not that good of hitters if playing at their fav. spot in ipl were able to score runs at high rate rishab has failed to do so

In test when he needs to hit the ball he charges down the pitch and hit 4/6. in white-ball bowlers are already bowling defensively and as soon as they see him gearing up for such shot they bowl wide on off stump making him play weak shot in air and getting him caught.

Because his inability to rotate strike and inability to hit 4/6 without taking risk, its hard for any batter to get a partnership going with him in middle overs.

Ben duckett has near 90 sr in tests , does not mean that he is a v.good at top tier attacking batter in white-ball. He has near 100 sr in odis and 150 in t20is, but you do nt think him as super aggressive batter in t20is or odis

his ton vs eng is brought up in most of these conversation. was it a good 100 yes , yes under the situation. but ind was chasing 260 (not a big target or a modest target in current context of odis) Pandaya did all the hitting when Ind was 4-down he scored 40ish ball 50 and some 55 ball 71.

On the other hand rishab score 50 in 70 ball , he was playing defensively and only started hitting when he crossed 50 run mark

Pant would have grown much more in ODIs if he had a captain and coach who would take him to task. But as of now  ,it's too late

He has some intangible attributes like handling pressure and other stuffs. But given the options we have at our disposal (Sanju couldn't break into this side) he can wait until all other keepers go totally off the boil or injured. It might very well happen. After all we brought back Karun Nair in Tests.  He may have a crazy T20 season or Test season. He has Jaiswal in company. Jaiswal was good enough for 2023 world cup. He is yet finding himself out of ODI side.

He has hit 100 sixes in test fastest than anyone else in history. No reason why he cannt do well in odis.

If KL Rahul can be keeper for world cup and Champions trophy. Pant sure can do better than him.

No matter what we wish , Kela and Jadeja are definitely going to play the world cup next year.

Useless sundar will keep failing like he does and a few months before the world cup, selectors will pick Sadeja citing eggsperience.

Kela will but Jadeja is out of reckoning now. Axar has taken over
