Anyway, on with the topic, I do hope that Balaji can be picked in the XI to show us what he has left at the international level and also to show us whether we can consider him for the NZ tour or not. Balaji confident of a good show in Lanka Chennai (PTI): Recalled to the Indian squad after nearly four years, pacer Lakshmipathy Balaji on Monday oozed confidence of making his mark in the ongoing one-day series against Sri Lanka. Set to leave for Colombo to replace Munaf, who has been ruled out due to a groin injury, Balaji said the success in domestic games has helped his return to the national side. "I am very happy. At the moment, I have been bowling well and confident of my performance and giving 100 per cent," he said. Balaji said he didn't set himself any time-frame for a return to the national side and just wanted to consistently perform at the domestic level. "I have not really set any target in coming back to the Indian team. I was only wanting to bowl to my potential and show improvement and consistency. Recall to the team is a great boost to me," he said. Balaji, who was instrumental in India's series win in Pakistan in 2004, incidentally had last played for India in a one-day game in 2005 in Dambulla. A stress fracture nagged him in the 2004 tour of England and injuries continued to haunt him. He has 11 wickets (including a hat-trick) to his credit in nine games for Chennai Super Kings, last year's finalists in the inaugural Indian Premier League. TY Chandan for getting this topic back on track, personally for me this the is one chance Balaji has earned, which he wouldnt have even dreamt of after the injury, the long lay off, the coming of age of zak and the emergence of Ishant. Rajan Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 i fail to understand why are they constantly ignoring rpsingh and sreesanth balaji's days are long over RP Singh is still injured. if there is a choice between Sreesanth and Balaji for the NZ tour, i will vote for Sreesanth. but for the one dayer, in a series almost already won by india, when there is a possibility of him playing only after the series is decided, Balaji deserves a break. he may 'phail' badly, but he deserves the opportunity.on current form, he is better than Irfan pathan and his confidence is also high. v have seen recently that 145k bowlers were getting murdered where as 130k bowlers were getting wickets with variation in SL/Pak series.

He assured Dravid that he has recovered but gingerly bowled off 10 paces, and just faster than Sachin or saurav wud have. if he had been so worried about getting injured again,he shud have told the management. RP Singh wud have been picked. he was very good but unlucky in the first 2 tests. similarly in this series, in the very first match, he was not running in fast, and the commentators noted that he slowed down when he was approaching the crease. that momentum was lost and it affected his rythm/pace.he must have had a niggle which worsened by the time the innings ended and now he is out.he shud not have played if he had a niggle.he did precious little in the field and nothing great in the match.if he has groin injury, it would not have occured after the match. i know i am not the team physio but this is what i deduce by what i saw in the match.

Furthemore, just because he bowls 120kph when he has to bowl 30-40 overs per innings, does not mean he can't crank it up to 130kph for a 10 over stint in an ODI. Pollock succeeded in ODIs bowling at under 130kph. However, I do remain sceptical about Balaji in ODIs, keeping in mind that he proved himself in 4 day cricket and has barely played 50 over cricket since his return.

The man broke his back twice and has had to bowl up to 53.3 overs per innings in sweltering heat, yet has taken numerous wickets at under 20 a piece on extremely flat pitches and you complain about his pace??

We all know how your idol fares when it comes to bowling 5 overs in his one spell. Balaji was never a known for his pace but he was known for the movement he used to generate off the seam or in the air.

He even hit 128 a couple of times!
